Biographical history
William Prior Dixon was born in Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire, England on May 16th, 1806. On June 18th, 1832, he married Ann Harrison in Spofforth, Yorkshire, England. He eventually immigrated to Canada with his family and settled in Woodstock, Ontario where he worked as a carpenter, contractor and builder. Along with James White, he is credited with building the Oxford County Registry Office in 1847; Woodstock Grammar School in 1848; East Oxford Township Hall in Oxford Centre in 1850; the Woodstock Town Hall in 1853.
W.P. Dixon passed away in Woodstock, Ontario on September 1, 1886.
Custodial history
The ledger was created and compiled by William Prior Dixon and was eventually donated to the Oxford Historical Society by an unknown donor. In 2022, the Oxford County Archives received the ledger, upon the closing of the Society’s Resource Centre.

The fonds consists of one financial ledger created by William Prior Dixon between the years 1836 and 1848.

The ledger is in fair condition, though the spine is quite worn and loose.
Immediate source of acquisition
Upon the closure of the Oxford Historical Society’s Resource Centre at the end of 2021, the records was transferred to the Oxford County Archives.
