Biographical history
Walter Brett was born April 13, 1836 in London England. Brett was a naturalist who collected birds at Belleville and Niagara Falls, Ontario as well as several other areas of Canada and the USA. His collection was purchased by J.H. Fleming and eventually became a part of the Royal Ontario Museum.
Custodial history
The notebooks were likely acquired by J. H. Fleming when he purchased Brett’s collection of specimens. It is not clear when the notebooks were brought to the ROM nor when they were transferred to the ROM Archives. At some point the notebooks were incorporated into SC76 Early Naturalists, but were misfiled and were never added to the finding aid. The notebooks were found misfiled with RG76 Textiles Department and redescribed as a separate fonds in April 2017.
