In 1967, the position of Co-ordinator of Academic Planning is established to assist the Vice-Rector (Academic) and co-ordinate development plans for the University's academic units. The co-ordinator is replaced in 1969 by the Assistant Vice-Rector (Academic). A new position of Assistant Vice-Rector (Institutional Research and Academic Planning) is created in 1971 to under take specific tasks regarding research and planning. It is replaced by an Institutional Research and Academic Planning unit, in 1978. In 1987, it becomes Institutional Research and is now under the helm of the Vice-Rector (Resources and Planning) leaving the academic aspects to the Vice-Rector (Academic). In the years 2002, a position of Associate Vice-President, Institutional Research and Planning directly under the management of the Office of the President. He is in charge of the Office of Institutional Research and Planning (IR&P) which primary functions are to provide the Executive Officers of the University and other Senior officers with analytical and management information. Its projects relate to students, faculty, staff, courses and programs, sponsored research support, facilities, and finances.
