Historique
Trinity College School (TCS) has an extensive history which begins in Weston, Ontario in 1865. Three years later, the School relocated to Port Hope, Ontario. Initially, TCS was intended to be a school that prepared boys for future enrolment at Trinity College at the University of Toronto. Today, our graduates attend universities all over the world. TCS has a proud history of developing habits of the heart and mind for lives of purpose and service.

The John D. Burns Archives, a department of Trinity College School, is the official repository for the records of Trinity College School from 1865 to present. The archives selects, describes and preserves the records of historical value for the School.
Administrative structure
The School has been collecting records pertaining to its history since 1865. Trinity College School was opened in 1865 as a preparatory school for the University of Toronto's Trinity College. The School was founded by Reverend W.A. Johnson and began as an Anglican school in Weston, Ontario with nine students. The School is now a non-denominational school with Anglican roots, located in Port Hope, Ontario. The School's student population is approximately 550. The School has both a Senior and a Junior School with education beginning in Grade 5. The School's archives reveal the rich history of this academic institution and serve as an excellent source of history for alumni, academic researchers, faculty, students and support staff. The sphere of functional responsibility of the archives is to preserve the history of the institution and the people involved.
The John D. Burns Archives is staffed by a School archivist, a member of the faculty with a Masters of Arts in history and archival studies and an archival assistant, a member of staff with a Masters of Information in Library and Information Science. All positions are part-time.

Access conditions and requirements
The Trinity College School campus, including the John D. Burns Archives, is currently closed to the public due to COVID-19. Archives staff is available from Tuesday, 9:30am to 5:00pm, Wednesday, 1:00pm to 5:00pm, Thursday 10:00am to 5:00pm, and Friday 9:30am-5:00pm. The Archives is closed during School holidays and for the Summer, from Speech Day in mid-June until classes resume in September.
The Archives is located on the third floor of the W.A. Johnson Classroom Block, the main building of the School's social sciences department. Access is via the School's main entrance on Deblaquire Street North. Check in at the Reception Desk for directions to the John D. Burns Archives, and for security purposes.
Accessibility
The School's entrance features automatic doors, is stair-free and the main foyer is gradually sloped for smooth entry. The John D. Burns Archives is accessible via stairs. Archives staff will accommodate accessibility needs by retrieving records and meeting in an accessible part of the School, such as the Library.
