    Administrative history

Services began at Galetta around 1880 on a monthly basis and by 1897, regular services were held fortnightly. St. Augustine's of Canterbury was built in 1902 on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. George White. The church was named after St. Augustine's College, Canterbury, from which the Rev. T.J. Stiles (the clergyman at that time) had graduated. The cornerstone was laid by the Archdeacon James John Bogert on May 24, 1902 and St. Augustine's, Galetta was consecrated by Bishop Charles Hamilton on November 22nd the same year. A brick rectory was purchased by 1911. The 50th anniversary of St. Augustine's Church was celebrated on May 25, 1952 and the 75th was marked in 1977. Regular services at St. Augustine's ended in 1994 and the church was closed in 2000.
