Administrative history

Scottish residents of Hamilton held their first St. Andrew's Day Banquet on November 30, 1835. The District of Gore St. Andrew's Benevolent Society was formed on December 29, 1835. This new society incorporated the previously existing United St. Andrew's Society of Ancaster, Dundas and Flamboro with the Scots from Hamilton. In 1836 the first officers were elected on St. Andrew's Day, 1836 for the Hamilton St. Andrew's Benevolent Society. Their original objective was the welcoming of Scottish immigrants to Hamilton and the providing of assistance to Scots and their dependents in need of temporary aid.
