    Biografie

Reginald Plunket (1880-1967) had a long naval career with the Royal Navy, attaining the rank of Rear Admiral. Born in London, and on inheriting estates from his mother in 1916, he assumed the royal license for the additional names of Ernic-Erle-Drax. Thereafter, he was usually known by the surname of Drax. He joined the Royal Navy and went to sea in 1896. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1901, commander in 1912 and captain in 1916. In 1919, Drax became the first director of the new Naval Staff College where he served until 1922. He was then President of the allied naval control commission in Berlin until 1924. In 1928, Drax was promoted to Rear-Admiral and served as director of manning at the admiralty from 1930 to 1932. In 1932-34 he was commander-in-chief America and West Indies, was promoted to vice-admiral in 1932 and admiral in 1936. In 1941, Drax retired and returned to his estates in Dorset. He died in Poole, England.
