Administrative history

The charter for the Simister Company Limited was granted by the Province of Ontario on January 24, 1902 and its first general meeting of its shareholders was held on February 12, 1902 at the office of Robert Alexander Simister on Carnegie Street, Ingersoll. The business, which was located in a warehouse on the south side of Victoria Street, just west of Thames Street, and opposite the home of Adam Oliver, distributed eggs, produce and cheese for the surrounding district.

Robert Alexander Simister, passed away in 1922. However, it is unknown by Archives Staff when the business was dissolved.

Custodial history

The ledger was originally produced by the Simister Company Limited in Ingersoll. Unfortunately its provenance is unknown, until it was acquired by Attic Books, London in 2015-2016 and then subsequently received by the County of Oxford Archives in February 2016.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of one ledger book that includes the By-laws of The Simister Company Limited, as well as the Minutes of Stakeholders Meetings and the Minutes of the Directors Meeting from February 1902- January 1921.

Physical condition

The ledger is in poor condition with a number of the pages being loose and the spine in need of repair.

Immediate source of acquisition

The fonds was acquired from Attic Books London in February 2016 by the County of Oxford Archives Staff.
