Series consists of a collection of family letters, mostly written to Mrs. George Wilson (nee Sarah Howell), 1817-1927. Other names mentioned, either as sender or receiver, include: Port Hope Evening Guide, Government of Canada, Susan Websters, Hannah Straw (Sarah's sister), George Wilson (Sarah's husband), Sarah Burnham, Mary Howell (Sarah's sister), Elizabeth Howell (Sarah's mother), and Henry Howell. There are also a few financial records (i.e. receipts) in the collection.

Sarah Wilson (nee Howell) (1823-1894) was born in York Township to Capt. Henry and Elizabeth Howell on 11 Nov 1823. She married George Wilson on 23 Mar 1847, and the pair had four sons and four daughters. Sarah died in Port Hope on 3 Dec 1894 of Liver Disease. She is buried at Port Hope Union Cemetery.
