Administrative history

The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Staff Officer (Wrens) was responsible for coordinating and overseeing the entire Wren component to ensure the best possible contribution to the efficiency of the navy while maintaining uniform high standards of conduct and behaviour. The officer recommended policy to govern recruiting, entry training, employment, advancement and promotion of Wrens and Wren officers, as well as policy to govern the service conditions and welfare of Wrens and Wren officers.

Fonds consists of a RCN Staff Officer (Wrens) file, dated 1959 to 1965, regarding employment in the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS). Issues addressed include rank and trade structure, uniform instructions, trade specifications, personnel rate, responsibilities and duties of Staff Officer (Wrens), as well as weight standards. Also includes two occupational information monographs prepared by Naval Headquarters, Ottawa.
