    Administrative history

The Chief Administrator's Office was established on January 1, 1973 when the Regional Municipality of Waterloo was officially established. W.L. Bradley, the first appointed Chief Administrative Officer worked with Chairman Jack Young and the new Regional Council to create the administrative framework for the Region. Some staff moved from area municipalities to the new Regional government depending on where services had been allocated.

In 1981, during the appointment of the second Chief Administrative Officer, R.F. Richardson, the title of Chief Administrator's Office changed to Chief Administrative Office. This title continued until 2004, the last year of the appointment of G.A. Thompson, when it changed to Chief Administrative Officer. This title continues today under Mike Murray, the current Chief Administrative Officer. As a result of the "Focus '92" organizational redesign, the Human Resources Department was to be headed by a new position, the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Human Resources (formerly the Commissioner of Human Resources).

Included with the correspondences are original and file copy reports, minutes, memorandums, charts, maps, plans, agreements, proposals, newsletters and photographs. A small portion of these records are on microfilm. The fonds also contains photographs, slides and negatives created between 1991 and 2000 by staff photographer, Earl Evens of the Chief Administrative Officer's department.
