Historique
The Archives was established to acquire and preserve archival records of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, to facilitate access to the records, and to support the development of the archival community in the Region, in 1990.

The Archives Policy 7.1 was approved by Regional Council in 1990 and revised in 2006.

The Region of Waterloo Archives exists to a) to acquire, appraise and preserve records that document the functions and activities of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo and any corporation, institution, board, commission, association, government body or individual related to the functions and activities of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo; b) to arrange, describe and facilitate access to these records; c) to accept donations of records; d) to promote the heritage of the Waterloo Region; and e) to support the development of the overall archival community in the Waterloo Region.

Opening times
Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and evenings by appointment. The Archives is closed on all weekends and holidays.

Research services
The Archives provides assistance to researchers by email, phone, fax, mail or in the research room by appointment. The Archivist is available to discuss research topics, provide possible archival sources, give instruction in the use of finding aids, and provide information on the preservation of records and archival practices.
Reproduction services
There are fees for photocopies, microfilm copies, copies of photographs, and for providing detailed assistance with research enquiries.
Photocopies/printouts - $0.20/page
CD-ROMS or equivalent media - $10.00 each
Long-distance Research Service - $7.50/15 minutes
