Custodial history

The military records related to Ex-Major Montgomery were created during WWI and were eventually donated to the Royal Canadian Military Institute, in Toronto, Ontario, as part of a collection related to a Private A.L. Rex, 107th Winnipeg Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. In June 1991, they were transferred to the Woodstock Museum, who in turn donated them to the Oxford Historical Society. In 2022, the Oxford County Archives received the records upon the closing of the Society’s Resource Centre.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of military records related to Ex-Major R.D. Montgomery, as well as a copy of “Deeds That Stirred The Empire” reprinted by “The Daily Chronicle”, during WWI. A letter from the Royal Canadian Military Institute explaining the records is also included.

The records are in good condition.

Immediate source of acquisition

Upon the closure of the Oxford Historical Society’s Resource Centre at the end of 2021, the records were transferred to the Oxford County Archives.
