Donated to the Port Hope Archives by B. Loucks, 2008. Donor, Barbara Loucks, is the daughter of Victoria Alberta Stuart Grant. Victoria Grant was the daughter of Josephine Stuart and Albert Grant, and a god-daughter of Queen Victoria. It was presented by Her Majesty Queen Victoria, to donor’s maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Grant at Balmoral on 22 Sep 1900. The portrait later hung in the Grant’s home, “Ballintruan” in Port Hope. Ballintruan was sold by the family in 1945 and the portrait has been in storage since that time.

Scope and content

Item is a framed and signed portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Victoria. Gold-gilt framed photogravure of Queen Victoria; presented in 1900. The original oil painting was created by Heinrich von Angeli in 1885. Photogravure is signed by Queen Victoria.

Physical condition

Sent for conservation treatment, 2010. Print cleaned, acid-free matting and foam core added, UV filter glass, and missing piece of frame restored.
