          Collection consists of publications, policy statements, research reports, conference and educational documents, and newsletters accumulated by Professor Linda Briskin in the course of her research on women and equity in organized labour in Canada. The documents were published by or about local, provincial, and national organizations, including the Canadian Labour Congress, provincial federations of labour, Canadian and United Auto Workers, Canadian Air Line Employees' Association, Canada Employment Immigration Union, the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada, the Committee for Cleaners' Rights, International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Metro Labour Council, Union of Provincial Government Employees, Canadian Union of Public Employees, Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation, Public Service Alliance of Canada, United Steelworkers of Canada, Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, and the Windsor Hospital Clerical Workers Union of Canada. The collection deals with equity in collective bargaining units, including issues of sisterhood and solidarity, education, human rights, anti-racism, aboriginal issues, affirmative action, violence against women, and the impact of technological change. The documents are arranged into files by organization, and they reflect the equity initiatives undertaken by unions to transform organizational practice and culture in order to ensure fairness and representation for women and members of other equity-seeking groups.

          The Bill Beaton fonds consists mostly of correspondence, reports, personnel files, speeches and documentation. They pertain to the mayoralty during the economic boom years (1939-1958) for the city of Sudbury . The speeches were given at local events and at CKSO radio on a weekly basis. The records provide insight to the structure of the education system and the infrastructure of the developing city. Within the documents of the fonds, there are 3 scrapbooks of newspaper clippings. This fonds also contains documentation on the community of Sudbury that includes: service clubs, education, Inco and the hiring of employees, W.E. Mason, and the city championships. The correspondence and the documentation files also reveal the political views of Bill Beaton on national and international issues. Specific topics regarding the debate over the Canadian flag, and World War II are well documented. Photographs of the Beaton family (originally created ca. 1916-1950) contained in the fonds are copies of the originals, which were kept by the family.

          The records of the Walford-Nepahwin Neighbourhood Ratepayers Association fonds include: minutes, reports, maps, correspondence, pamphlets and newspaper clippings. The documents provide insight to the activities of this group from 1974 to 1996. The records show that through the years, the group has been active in: the preservation of the Lily Creek Conservation Area, bylaws regulating commercial land development and commercial signs, the disposal of hazardous wastes, recycling, the repercussions of a teachers' strike, and the controversial issue of slurry trucks and traffic safety.

          Fonds consists of Lindstrom's professorial and scholarly research files throughout her career, as well as records documenting her academic activities. Research files pertain to her publications and monographs such as "Defiant Sisters : A Social History of Finnish Immigrant Women in Canada, 1890-1930" (both the English and Finnish editions), and "From Heroes to Enemies : Finns in Canada, 1937-1947," as well as book chapters, articles, papers, presentations and lectures, and her involvement with the National Film Board production "Letters from Karelia," and subsequent research. The research files span the activities of Finnish and Finnish-Canadian organizations across the political spectrum, such as the Finnish Organization of Canada (left wing), and Loyal Finns in Canada (right wing). Records include oral history interviews (audio cassettes and transcripts), research notes, clippings, a significant and extensive number of photograph and letter collections passed down through generations of Finnish Canadians, diaries, correspondence, publication drafts, academic and professorial notes, microfilm of Finnish language newspapers published in Canada and archival records, financial records of Finnish-Canadian organizations such as newspapers and post-World War II relief funding bodies, scrapbooks, photocopies of rare and unusual documents such as two volumes of a Soviet register of Finnish War Crimes, a list of persons found in the mass grave at Karhumaki, and Soviet lists of North American Finns who journeyed to Karelia to help build a socialist utopia there, academic and professorial files, publicity files, files pertaining to her work with the School of Women's Studies, and her own papers as a university student. The fonds also includes letters written by Lindstrom as a newly-arrived teenaged immigrant to Canada to her best friend in Finland; many of these letters were published in Finnish with English translation in 'Letters from an immigrant teenager' in 2012.

          The fonds consists of a minute-book of the regular meetings of the Gowganda, Local 33, of the Socialist Party of Canada recorded between February 1911 and June 1927. There are no minutes recorded between February 1914 and June 1927. The first recorded meeting states: “Gowganda Local*33 of Socialist Party of Canada held an organization meeting in the Miners’ Union hall on February 19, 1909 when the following business was transacted”. The document, however, is dated Feb. 19, 1911.

          File consists of a letter to the Rev. C. H. Boulden, Rector, St. Mark's Church, Port Hope from the Right Honourable Vincent Massey, 5 Feb 1952. The letter is in response to a letter of congratulations received by Vincent Massey from the congregation of St. Mark's Church. Signed by Vincent Massey. This letter is reproduced on page 89 of "Time Was." Details for the reproduction are written on the back of the letter. Also, "Ceremony of the Trooping of the Colour by the Governor-General's Foot Guards" 1 Jul 1954.

It also includes copies of Drummond's poetic writings pertaining to Robert Burns' dinners, and odes to York faculty and staff, and memorabilia of his days as an undergraduate student at York.

          Series consists of posters and certificates accumulated by Marilou McPhedran from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s. These items pertain to events in which she participated or events held by organizations with which she was involved, including LEAF, the International Women's Rights Project, and the Task Force on the Sexual Abuse of Patients, as well as items related to McPhedran's interests, such as international women's rights. Also included in this series are McPhedran's 1985 Order of Canada certificate and her 2004 Master of Laws diploma.

          Series consists of amateur and professional photographs taken and accumulated by Jean Augustine during her personal and professional life in Canada. This series documents Augustine's personal and family life in Grenada and Canada from the 1940s through to 2005, including her emigration to Canada, her social activities as a young woman in Toronto, her life as a young mother, social activist, teacher and student. Photographs also document her early involvement in the 1970s and 1980s in community movements, cultural events, social justice and political organizations, as well as her professional career as an elementary school teacher and principal in the Metropolitan Separate School Board, her activities as part of Premier David Peterson's 'transition team' in 1985 and her work as chair of the Metro Toronto Housing Authority. Events documented include the election campaign of American politician Jesse Jackson, the earliest celebrations of the Caribana parade in Toronto, women's rights events and protests, and local Black History Month celebrations. Photographs also document Augustine's activities as a federal politician, including her activities on Parliament Hill, her administration of federal committees and the Secretariats of Multiculturalism (later Multiculturalism and Status of Women), as well as her election campaigns (including door-to-door campaigning; fund raising; speeches; debates and promotion), and local activities (including celebrations at her constituency office; round table discussions and meetings with community organizations; annual Christmas parties; summer picnics; community celebrations; banquets; and Remembrance Day ceremonies). Photographs also document Augustine's extensive travel overseas in the Caribbean, the United States, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Asia, Central Asia and the Far East, both in her official capacity as a politician and cabinet member, and as a tourist and traveller.

          Fonds consists of records documenting the personal, professional and communal activities of Phil Givens. The bulk of the material is graphic and most of the photographs relate to his tenure as Mayor of Toronto and to his Jewish communal work. The records also include general correspondence, speeches, campaign material, scrapbooks, cartoons, certificates and awards, biographical writings, audio and visual materials and artifacts. The records have been arranged into nine series representing Givens’ various roles and activities and have been described to the file level and item level when necessary. These series are: 1.
