Administrative history

Established as the Ganaraska Region Archives in 1994 by the East Durham Historical Society and the Port Hope Branch of the A.C.O., and renamed the Port Hope Archives in 2005; the archives has been serving the Municipality of Port Hope for over 20 years. Supported by dedicated volunteers and generous members, the Archives provides access to archival materials related to Port Hope’s history.

Custodial history

Created by the Port Hope Archives during the process of undertaking the Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope Oral History Project, 2012-2015. The project ran from 2013-2014 as a way to capture the stories of current and former business owners in the downtown core of Port Hope.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of materials created and collected by the Port Hope Archives related to the "Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope" Oral History Project. It has been arranged into eight (8) series: (1) Research and Workshop; (2) Development Papers; (3) Business Directory Research; (4) Agreement Forms; (5) Written Submissions; (6) Electronic Documents; (7) Project Planning Scrapbook; (8) Oral History Interviews.
