Biographical history
The Old Millside Residents' Association (OMRA) was started in the late 1930s by Percy T. Robinson, a local citizen concerned with development activities in the area not meeting municipal building codes. Robinson also served as the organization's first president.
During this time the OMRA went by a few different names: The Humberview-Langmuir Home Owners Association, The Langmuir-Humbercrest Home Owner's Association, or The Humberview-Langmuir-Humbercrest Home Owner's Association. The Old Millside name was introduced in 1944, after canvassing member households.
The OMRA's primary function is to give the community a resource to draw on when dealing with difficulties or differences of opinion with Township authorities. It has also released regular newsletters and bulletins throughout its history, both to keep community members informed, and to welcome and introduce new residents. Over time, the association quickly broadened its function into community activities through recreational sports, games, and annual celebrations. Victoria Day parades and fireworks displays were a long standing tradition for the OMRA.
Custodial history
Records were accumulated by Ellen Mitchell and her ex-husband David Britton during their time as executive members of the Old Millside Residents' Association. Early records were given to David Britton by former executive members during the time he was active as Secretary in the 1960s.
