Administrative history

The Niagara Area Lutheran Council was formed in 1969 by the Lutheran congregations in the St. Catharines, Ont. area. It expanded during the 80's to include congregations in Fonthill, Beamsville, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Port Colborne and Niagara Falls. Its purpose was to promote Christianity in the community and to strengthen the ties of Christian fellowship among the area Lutheran congregations. This was attempted through Bible institutes, area choir, fellowship dinners, scholarships to synodical schools, and special worship services. By 1999, the Niagara Circuit of the East District of Lutheran Church-Canada was well constituted to make the necessary arrangements for most of these functions. As a result, the usefulness of the Niagara Area Lutheran Council had run its course and it disbanded in May 1999.
