Administrative history
In 1956 a Standing Home Missions Committee of the PAOC was created. Before that both home and foreign missions issues had been discussed in the Missionary Committee. It was decided that this Committee would consist of the District Superintendents and that the purposes of the Committee would be to consult on the promotion of evangelistic efforts and the opening of new churches, to discuss policies and projects affecting all Districts, and to coordinate District efforts, camps, speakers, ministers' institutes, exchange of evangelists, and home missions conventions. Policy issues would be referred to the General Executive for approval. The creation of this Committee responsible for coordinating missions in Canada was followed in 1958 by the creation of the Home Missions and Bible College Education Department which would provide the administrative support to fulfill the mandate of and decisions made by the Committee. In 1992 the position of Executive Director of Home Missions and Bible Colleges was eliminated. The functions of overseeing home missions and Bible college activities were assumed by the Executive Director of Canadian Ministries. The Standing Home Missions Committee continued to exist until 1998. It was replaced in 2002 by the Missions in Canada Committee which was established as a committee of the General Executive.
