The Ottawa Valley Regiment Fonds contain material relating to the Ottawa Valley Regiment from the second half of the 18th century up until the late 20th century. The documents include copies of Militia General Orders from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s, officer lists, regimental returns, general correspondence and memorandum reports, maps, and newspaper and gazette excerpts.

Most of the papers deal with Bell's activities as part of the Hastings Militia. Bell served under his friend, John Ferguson, and in 1825 succeeded him as colonel in command of the 1st Regiment, Hastings Militia. There is a small quantity of personal correspondence and 23 items relating to his role as Justice of the Peace and Coroner. Also included is a small file of correspondence from Robert Laing, who succeded Bell as schoolmaster on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Reserve. The photographs are arranged by subject matter and cover activities in and around the town of Deseronto, Ontario. The majority date from the late nineteenth century and many depict the lumber-related industries of the Rathbun Company in Deseronto. There are also photographs of school groups, churches, railways, First World War airfields and portraits of Deseronto citizens.

Fonds consists primarily of letters from Roland James Saundercook, a Canadian soldier fighting overseas, home to his immediate family in Collin's Bay, Ontario, dating between 1942 and 1945. Other letters present include from people overseas who had known Roland James Saundercook and wanted to send condolences to his family, and letters from family friends on the same topic dated 1945. Also present is Saundercook's flying log book and other military records, land records and a photograph of the Saundercook home in Collin's Bay, official military correspondence about his disappearance and his parents subsequent attempt to locate him, and a photograph album of early carte-de-visites, unidentified.
