History
The Lennox and Addington Historical Society was formally constituted in 1907. The objectives in 1907 were: “To engage in the collection, preservation, exhibition and publication of materials for the study of history, especially the history of the county of Lennox and Addington.” The Society has always maintained enthusiasm for both material culture and documentary heritage. It owns a large collection of artifacts and archival materials, most of which are housed at the Lennox and Addington County Museum in Napanee. The Society also owns and operates the Allan Macpherson House, which has custody of items from the collection appropriate to the role of the House. In addition, the Society supports interest in the history and genealogy of Lennox and Addington through an annual programme of lectures, publication of their “Papers and Records”, an active website, and special projects such as the book “Remembering” (Lennox and Addington in World War Two).
