    3.38 m of manuscripts 1246 photographs, 22 negatives : b&w and col. 3 videotapes Rilla of Ingleside, original manuscript written by L.M.M., 564 leaves in 5 binders L.M. Montgomery's artifact collection includes: needlework such as: a cushion cover, handkerchief, shawl, coasters, pillowcases, towel, and a medal; also Gog and Magog, the pair of Straffordshire pottery dogs purchased by the author on her honeymoon in 1911. 355 reels of newspapers 99 of L.M.M. published books (several copies for some titles), and her personal library has 133 books.

    Biographical history

    Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in 1874. She lived in P.E.I. until she and her husband, the Rev. Ewan Macdonald moved to Ontario after 1911. Her writing career began when she published poems and stories in newspapers and magazines. Her most notable work, Anne of Green Gables, was published in 1908 by L.C. Page and Company of Boston. During her lifetime, L.M.M. published 22 novels, a book of poetry, and more than 500 short stories. She died in Toronto in 1942.

    Montgomery's son, Dr. E. Stuart Macdonald sold her diaries to the University of Guelph in 1981; this sale also included five personal scrapbooks covering the period 1910-1937. A large collection of additional material, approximately 45 poems and 45 short stories, was purchased from Macdonald's estate in 1983. The manuscript of Rilla of Ingleside was donated by Murray and Emily Woods in 2000.

    Collection consists of: photographs, negatives, videos, needlework, handwritten journals, scrapbooks, correspondence, microfiche of newspapers, books, author's will, papers relating to her estate and business and lawsuit with L.C.
