Administrative history
Dr. Mike Henderson was hired as a consultant biomedical engineer for Kingston General Hospital in August, 1981 and was responsible for 'Management Engineering.' In 1982, he was appointed Director of the newly named Department of Clinical Engineering. Today, the role of Clinical Engineering is to manage health care technology for KGH and Hotel Dieu Hospital; this includes primary responsibility for ensuring medical technology meets appropriate standards of safety, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and efficacy. Since 2002, Clinical Engineering has reported to the Vice President, Program Support and Dr. Mike Henderson remains the Director.
Custodial history
Following an inventory of active and inactive records in Clinical Engineering in 2006, selected records were transferred to the KGH Archive.
Scope and content
The Clinical Engineering fonds contains the administrative record of the Hospital's clinical engineering function. The fonds includes policies and procedures, minutes of staff meetings, disaster preparedness materials and presentations. Fonds is comprised of the following series: Series 1: Policies and Procedures Series 2: Correspondence Series 3: Staff Meetings Series 4: Disaster Planning Series 5: Presentations
