Mr James A. Coote was born and raised in Oakville, Ont. and after graduating from high school worked at several jobs. After working for Shawinigan Water and Power in Three Rivers he entered McGill University and graduated in electrical engineering in 1913. Following graduation he worked for Westinghouse in unitl the war broke out. In the words of his own biographical notes "after bumming around for a while I went into the YMCA canteen in the military camp in Toronto Exhibition grounds...The pay was only nominal and in the spring when the camp broke up I got a job with the government inspecting cordite at Nobel." In 1917 he joined the faculty of Engineering at McGill and remained there for the rest of his career.
Images were taken by James A. Coote and donated to the CNE Archives in 2004.
