Biographical history
Jack Racher was born, in 1928, and raised in Salford, Ontario, where he father owned and operated a garage. He was an avid hunter, most of his life, hunting deer, rabbit, and even a bear once, as well as an advocate for responsible firearms ownership. He was involved in politics when it came to gun laws, and a collector of antique guns as well. He was a lifelong employee Ingersoll Machine and Tool, as well as the former president of the Ingersoll Rifle and Revolver Club. Jack Rachar married Lenore Carter, with whom he had three children; Nancy (Vandenberghe), Mary Ann (Connor), and Garry Rachar. He passed away at Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll on January 15, 2007 in his 79th year.
Custodial history
The records were compiled over Jack Racher’s lifetime, and passed on to his daughter Mary Ann (Connor). Steven Smith, of Woodstock, donated the records on behalf of her and the Racher family on August 9th 2022.
Scope and content
The fonds are a compilation of various records regarding hunting/firearms laws and permits of the time, as well as some assorted items from the Ingersoll Rifle and Revolver Club. It is arranged into the following series: Licenses and Permits, which consists of the hunting and fishing licenses and permits of Jack Racher. Ingersoll Rifle and Revolver Club, consisting of items relating to the club and its members, and some memorabilia. Correspondence, consisting of letters regarding new gun laws, as well as permits and licenses of Rifle and Revolver Club members, with a few items regarding gun registration.

The material is in very good condition, if a little fragile.
Immediate source of acquisition
The records were donated to the Oxford County Archives by Stephen Smith, of Woodstock, in August 2022.
