    Biographical history

    John Lawrence Runnalls (1901-1994) was a school inspector for the Ontario Ministry of Education, working in Lincoln County. He retired in 1965 and pursued his two favourite hobbies, bookbinding and historical research. As historian, Runnalls wrote more than 18 books and other publications, including a history of the St. Catharines General Hospital commissioned by Arthur A. Schmon in 1956. An active Rotarian and Freemason, he served for more than 10 years as the editor of The Bulletin, a journal of the Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Canada

    The fonds remained at the Runnalls family home 50 Strathcona Drive, St. Catharines (Ont.) until 1988 when the home was sold and Mr. Runnalls moved to nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake.

    Scope and content

    The fonds consists mainly of Masonic materials, in particular, those accumulated during the 10 year period in which Mr. Runnalls was editor of The Bulletin, a publication of the Grand Lodge A.F. & A. M. Fonds consists of the following series: souvenir books scrapbooks photographs correspondence
