This is a collection of material related to the life and work of Mother Ignatia Campbell which comprises two subseries. It includes several biographical chronologies and summaries of her work which were considered in the drafting of her profile in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography (University of Toronto Press). There are news clippings and photographs of the 1991 “People and the City” monument in London, Ontario which includes a depiction of Mother Ignatia Campbell. There is information related to the “Mother Ignatia Campbell Bursary for Women” introduced at Regis College, Toronto in 2005. There are genealogical research notes and correspondence about Mother Ignatia Campbell prepared by Sister Esther Bardawell. There are also several undated photographs of Mother Ignatia Campbell.

Series consists of all known surviving documentary evidence of the early Shunk and Keffer clans of Vaughan Township, Ontario. The series illustrates the role of the Keffers and Shunks in the Sherwood Grange (No. 205), as well as depicting the social and economic role of this type of organization in mid-19th century Vaughan.

Peter Miller fonds

The fonds consists of four primary categories of material: personal papers, school board materials, business records of the Miller farm and genealogical research. Most of the personal papers are letters, postcards and greeting cards sent to the Millers, materials from Peter Miller’s school days and from his son, Peter Miller Junior (who was Editor of the Ernesttown Secondary School newsletter in 1962 and 1963). There are also some materials related to local Methodist activities, particularly the Switzerville Busy Bee Mission Band. Peter Miller also kept various enumeration lists for Prince Edward, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Counties from 1938 until 1984 which were useful for his activities. Five property tax rolls for Richmond Township dated between 1873 and 1894 may have been used by Peter Miller’s grandfather. The school board materials include various accounts books, minutes of meetings of the Lennox and Addington Board, assessment reviews and correspondence. There are also Minute Books for Richmond S.S. 8 (1908-1942) and for Richmond S.S. 20 (1910-1948). The Miller Family Farm was a typical Ontario mixed farming operation which included dairy cattle and grains. Most activities were wound up following the death of Peter’s father in 1964. Farm records include bills, receipts, statements, lists of expenditures, circa 1916 until 1970. There are publications concerning breeding and showing livestock and instruction manuals for operating and repairing farm machinery. The genealogical research files contain Peter Miller’s notes about his own Miller line as well as the Husband, Martin and Switzer families. Fonds consists of records created and collected by Agnes Effie Sands Mern and other members of the Wawanosh family. Included are records relating to the life and work of various family members. In particular, the fonds contains records relating to the work of Joshua, David and William as chiefs of the Chippewas of Sarnia. Also included are the personal records of the family including correspondence, financial records, memorandum and account books and personal records relating to births, marriages and deaths. The records of most of the family members are intermingled, possibly a reflection of how Agnes Sands Mern kept them. Also included are the records of Agnes Effie Sands Mern (which make up the majority of the fonds) including her correspondence, financial records (including the records of the Wawanosh Post convenience store), records relating to her musical and artistic interest and records relating to her work in the Church and her activities organizing cultural events and concerts. Also included are the records of Agnes' husband John Phillips Mern such as his correspondence, financial records, notebooks and personal records relating to his son John P. Mern Jr.
Fonds also contains several sketches of members of the Wawanosh family as well as a large assortment of photographs. Photographs include portraits of family members, ministers and missionaries, friends and others as well as images depicting the daily life and travels of Agnes and John P. Mern. Photographs of John P. Mern consist of several albums documenting his time in the US navy and the childhood of his son. Several photographic processes are represented including tintypes, cartes de visite, cabinet cards, postcards and prints.

Mark Young Stark family papers

Most of the records consist of letters written to Mark Young Stark and his wife, Agatha, in Dundas. Correspondents include friends and family in Scotland or friends and colleagues in Upper Canada. Of the Scottish letters, those from Stark’s stepmother (Mary Bannatyne) and aunt (Grace Young) are the most numerous. Some letters predate Stark’s immigration to Canada in 1833. Other letters were written to his wife and to their daughter, Mary Ann, after Stark’s death in 1866. Topics addressed in the letters revolve around personal and family news but occasionally touch on current events, including politics and ecclesiastical affairs.
