The Guelph Horticultural Society gave out trophies to groups or individuals who made great conservation contributions. The winner for this year were Dr. R. J. Hilton, the director of the Arboretum. The Junior Conservation Award went to Kathy Allan, a GCVI student who worked at Niska Wildlife Foundation and raised money for Kortright.

This was part of a larger event called the creative leisure festival that invited lots of community groups and crafty individuals to show their work and get kids interested in various hobbies. Some of the groups featured were the camera club, stamp club, orienteering club, macrame, model planes, and yoga.

This photograph shows Elsa Christensen receiving a $100 bursary from Mrs. R. A. Logan, president of the Guelph General Auxiliary for her participation in the Candy Striper program. Ellen Bowden (left) is the convener of the program and Mrs. J. W. Day accepted a bursary on behalf of her daughter Cindy. Other volunteers were given caps, pins, bars and ribbons for the number of hours they worked.
