The fonds consists of 12 letters written by Alexander McPherson to members of his family, including his mother and his brother-in-law. The majority of the letters were written while he held the position of Manager at Plantation Nos. 17 & 18 in Berbice, British Guiana and the remainder represent the period following when he settled at Whitby.

Dellandrea, JonCollection consists of approximately fifty pieces of antiquarian maps, engraved views, portraits and scenes relating to the Red River Settlement of Manitoba and the North West Rebellion of 1885. The engravings reflect the emerging province of Manitoba as seen through the eyes of nineteenth century travelers and historians. Two bird’s eye views are of particular note, the first being a spread of views, buildings and an insert map of Winnipeg dated 1882, and the second being a lithographic bird’s eye view of Winnipeg, 1884, depicting the city in its early development, surrounded by vignettes of local prominent public and private buildings. Also included is a “British America” J. & F. Tallis map with the principle vignette being “Hudson City”, ca. 1849.

This fonds consists of chattel mortgages and chattel mortgage renewals filed at Manitoulin District Court from 1888 to 1915. The records provide information on what moveable property was held as collateral security.

Noxon, Alf Cooper and V.B. Wadsworth regarding a proposal to settle Hebridean farmers in Northwestern Ontario in 1924.

The fonds attests to the role of the Secretary-Treasurer of the Carnarvon Agricultural Society, and on the activities of the Society. Records of Charles Ferguson’s son’s attendance at the Sunday School and information on his wife’s family also informs us on his family. It consists of a minute book, a member roll book, correspondence, and documentation. United Church Sunday School roll, and information of F. Bond’s Estate are also included.
Ferguson, Charles PeterThe Robert S. (Bob) Atkinson Collection consists of two Northern Ontario photo albums depicting the Clay Region between 1910 and the 1940s. One album contains 299 photographs which document the development of Kapuskasing, the construction of the hydro-electric dam, the experimental farm, and the fire that destroyed it. The photographs also illustrate daily life, as well as various outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and snowshoeing. Many of the photographs have the names of the individuals in them and even the locations, but not all are dated. There are also some photos of Iroquois Falls and Moose Factory in this album. The Moose Factory photos include the visit of Charles Lindberg and wife in August 1931. They also include photos of First Nations’ youth.
The second photo album of 262 photographs contains photographs of families and youth of Kapuskasing and other municipalities of the region, and documents their lives as well as summer and winter activities in the region. Only in a few are individuals identified and dated. In the album are also a large number of photos of the military including some of the Kapuskasing internment camp and various internees. Many of these are dated and contain the name of the individual(s) and location.
The William Meredith Ireton fonds contains 22 black & white photographs and 12 black & white negatives that attest to Ireton’s professional relocation to Northern Ontario and document the way of life in that area between 1925 and 1947.
Of the 22 photographs, at least 13 were taken in Connaught Station, Ontario before 1930. These photos depict Ireton himself, local townspeople (along with a dog named Woof Woof), social activities such as a picnic and concert, and buildings throughout town, including the drug store where Ireton worked as a pharmacist. Additional photos and negatives depict scenes on a dock, and of an unknown wedding, both in unidentified locations. Also included in the fonds are two photos of an Osulake Mines site at O’Sullivan Lake in 1947, likely reflecting Ireton’s work as an insurance salesman throughout Northern Ontario.
Ireton, William MeredithConsisting of printed fire insurance plans with handwritten notations, the fonds attests to the activities of the Underwriters’ Survey Bureau and to Charles Goad Company. Originally compiled by mapmakers and leased to insurance companies, who used the information about building sizes and construction material to determine the fire risk and the cost of insurance premiums, the fire insurance plans depict nine (9) municipalities of Northern Ontario: Ansonville (1928), Bruce Mines (1922), Cache Bay (1915), Capreol (1950), Chapleau (1950), Gore Bay (1922), Rainy River (1950), Schreiber (1950), and Thessalon (embracing Nestorville) (1922).
The following information can be found on the plans: the population, housing information such as: the materials used for construction, as well as, information on the power used, water works and alarm systems. Handwritten notes can be found on some of the plans.
Canadian Fire Underwriters' AssociationMost of the records consist of letters written to Mark Young Stark and his wife, Agatha, in Dundas. Correspondents include friends and family in Scotland or friends and colleagues in Upper Canada. Of the Scottish letters, those from Stark’s stepmother (Mary Bannatyne) and aunt (Grace Young) are the most numerous. Some letters predate Stark’s immigration to Canada in 1833. Other letters were written to his wife and to their daughter, Mary Ann, after Stark’s death in 1866. Topics addressed in the letters revolve around personal and family news but occasionally touch on current events, including politics and ecclesiastical affairs.

Fonds is comprised of approximately 105 historical photographs, family genealogy documents, various company shares, wills, and land documents pertaining to the family of Andrew Finnie II (1820-1908), resident of South Monaghan Township and farmer from the 1850s onwards. The photographs pertain largely to descendants, some of whom moved to Manitoba and sent photographs of themselves to the home farm in South Monaghan; many fine examples of photographs taken by Peterborough photographers in the 19th century are included. This fonds also includes detailed genealogical information compiled by the donor about the people represented in the photographs; also included are the donor’s detailed descriptions of the textual documents.
Andrew II FinnieThe records of the Sudbury Planning Board/Junction Creek fonds attest to the feasibility study for a park at Junction Creek. Although not complete, the records document the development of the project by the Sudbury Planning Board. The maps and drawings depict the site in 1964. The accompanying records give insight on the elements considered in the planning of the project.
