Mayor Norm Jary presented skater Sylvia Pol with a plate with the city's crest for earning a gold medal in dance. Pol was a member of the Guelph Figure Skating Club.

Bud Cullen was the federal minister of employment and immigration. He was interviewed by The Mercury after surveying businesses in Kitchener and was a guest speaker at a meeting for the department of industry, trade, and commerce.

The Block Parent Program was a province wide program that allowed participants to put a sign in their window. The sign placed in a window let children know that if they needed assistance they could visit that block parent.
