Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran while employed as an international consultant for Cowater International, hired to conduct a study and prepare a final report about the work of the Asian Development Bank's RETA 6008: Gender and Governance Issues in Local Government project. The records in this series document McPhedran's contract negotiations with Cowater; her preliminary research; her travel to the Philippines, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh; but primarily her work with Asian Development Bank staff to prepare the final report. Series consists of records accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to the work of the Program Advisory Committee of the Canadian Firearms Program, formed in February 2003, on which McPhedran served as a member until its disbandment in 2005. The records in this series document the general activities of the committee, particularly its quarterly meetings held in Ottawa, Ontario. Also included in this series are records pertaining to the Coalition for Gun Control, with which McPhedran was associated prior to and during her time on the Program Advisory Committee. Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to the organization and functions of the Charter of Rights Education Fund, which was created to review Ontario legislation for sex discrimination and to ensure compliance with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. These records document the activities of the fund's committee (including fundraising), its financial resources, Charter Study Days, and audits of government statutes. McPhedran was a co-founder of the fund and member of the finance committee in 1982 and 1983. The files in this series consist of correspondence, grant applications, reports, notes, memoranda, agendas, minutes, and financial statements.

The fonds consists of material of Dennis Charles Hefferon relating to the Law Society of Upper Canada's Special Committee on Legal Education, which includes briefs from teachers, students and practitioners, background research materials, minutes of meetings, correspondence, and a draft copy of the final report, 1970-1972. There is also material from the Osgoode Law School Faculty Council, including agendas (1959-1966) and minutes (1964-1971), memoranda, the Dean's Annual Report (1962-1966) and reports of committees. The fonds includes records of; the Academic Policy Committee, including curriculum evaluations; the Admissions Committee; the Constitutional Committee; the Committee on Faculty Administration; the Special Committee on Future Enrolment; and the Special Committee on Organization and Function of the Faculty Council. There are also papers relating to the affiliation of Osgoode with York University, including reports on the affiliation, building plans, committee reports, statements on programme, enrolment and facility requirements of the Law School, and related material.

Series consists of records pertaining to Marilou McPhedran's involvement with the International Women's Rights Project (IWRP), founded in 1998 and initially based at the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. The records in this series document McPhedran's work as founding director to fulfill the project's mandate, which was to strengthen the capacity of women's non-government organizations through research and activism to influence the implementation of international human rights standards. These records reflect IWRP's initial primary focus on the Conventional on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Impact Study and Report, but also document projects that emerged from the CEDAW project, including initiatives regarding women's rights in Afghanistan and a project with the Kharvik Centre for Women's Studies in the Ukraine. Records in this series span the period of McPhedran's involvement with IWRP as founder, director and co-director, both at York University and at the Centre for Global Studies at the University of Victoria, from 1998 to 2005. These records illustrate the breadth and variety of McPhedran's work in the areas of constitutional reform, women's international and national rights, women's health, and violence against women and children. Series consists of files created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to an Ontario Human Rights complaint filed against Osgoode Hall Law School and York University Dean Harry Arthurs and the resulting formation of the Institute for Feminist Legal Research at York University. McPhedran was one of more than 100 lawyers, law students and legal academics who were signatories of this complaint, which charged systemic discrimination against women after Osgoode Hall Law School did not promote Professor Mary Jane Mossman to the position of dean. The records in this series document the process of settling the dispute, the meetings and activities of the complainants' steering committee, and the details of the settlement made between the complainants and York University. These records include memoranda, newsletters, notes, correspondence, minutes of settlement, memoranda of agreement, agendas, reports, draft documents, invoices, and notices.

The records in this series document McPhedran's participation in and written work for a number of courses, including: Aboriginal Peoples and the Canadian Constitution (GS LAW 6727); Constitutional Law and the Charter (GS LAW 6640); Federalism and Institutions of Government (GS LAW 6721); and Freedom of Expression and the Press (GS LAW 6722). Series consists of records pertaining to a libel lawsuit brought against Marilou McPhedran by the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) regarding a 2001 article titled "First, do no harm", written by McPhedran for the "Globe and Mail" newspaper. These records document the court appeal of Dr. Anil Mussani, who was found guilty of the sexual abuse of a patient by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the OMA's role as intervenor, the nature of McPhedran's response to the lawsuit, and negotiations for the settlement of the case. Included in the series are research materials pertaining to McPhedran's work as chair of the Task Force on the Sexual Abuse of Patients, which she headed in 1991 and 2000. The records in this series include legal documents, magazine and newspaper articles, correspondence and memoranda.

Series consists of records created and used by Marilou McPhedran while serving as chairperson of two task forces on the subject of sexual abuse of patients by physicians. The first of these independent task forces was commissioned by the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1990 and included members Harvey Armstrong, Rachel Edney, Pat Marshall, Roz Roach and coordinators Briar Long and Bonnie Homeniuk. The records in this series pertain to task force hearings and meetings and document the process of preparing the task force's preliminary and final reports. These records include McPhedran's resource materials and first-person testimonies submitted to the task force. Also included in this series are records created when the task force was reconvened in 2000 to review the impact of the Regulated Health Professions Act. The buttons in this series are personal, made using family photographs, and protest/organizational buttons.

Fonds consists of Lindstrom's professorial and scholarly research files throughout her career, as well as records documenting her academic activities. Research files pertain to her publications and monographs such as "Defiant Sisters : A Social History of Finnish Immigrant Women in Canada, 1890-1930" (both the English and Finnish editions), and "From Heroes to Enemies : Finns in Canada, 1937-1947," as well as book chapters, articles, papers, presentations and lectures, and her involvement with the National Film Board production "Letters from Karelia," and subsequent research. The research files span the activities of Finnish and Finnish-Canadian organizations across the political spectrum, such as the Finnish Organization of Canada (left wing), and Loyal Finns in Canada (right wing). Records include oral history interviews (audio cassettes and transcripts), research notes, clippings, a significant and extensive number of photograph and letter collections passed down through generations of Finnish Canadians, diaries, correspondence, publication drafts, academic and professorial notes, microfilm of Finnish language newspapers published in Canada and archival records, financial records of Finnish-Canadian organizations such as newspapers and post-World War II relief funding bodies, scrapbooks, photocopies of rare and unusual documents such as two volumes of a Soviet register of Finnish War Crimes, a list of persons found in the mass grave at Karhumaki, and Soviet lists of North American Finns who journeyed to Karelia to help build a socialist utopia there, academic and professorial files, publicity files, files pertaining to her work with the School of Women's Studies, and her own papers as a university student. The fonds also includes letters written by Lindstrom as a newly-arrived teenaged immigrant to Canada to her best friend in Finland; many of these letters were published in Finnish with English translation in 'Letters from an immigrant teenager' in 2012.

Collection consists of publications, policy statements, research reports, conference and educational documents, and newsletters accumulated by Professor Linda Briskin in the course of her research on women and equity in organized labour in Canada. The documents were published by or about local, provincial, and national organizations, including the Canadian Labour Congress, provincial federations of labour, Canadian and United Auto Workers, Canadian Air Line Employees' Association, Canada Employment Immigration Union, the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada, the Committee for Cleaners' Rights, International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Metro Labour Council, Union of Provincial Government Employees, Canadian Union of Public Employees, Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation, Public Service Alliance of Canada, United Steelworkers of Canada, Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, and the Windsor Hospital Clerical Workers Union of Canada. The collection deals with equity in collective bargaining units, including issues of sisterhood and solidarity, education, human rights, anti-racism, aboriginal issues, affirmative action, violence against women, and the impact of technological change. The documents are arranged into files by organization, and they reflect the equity initiatives undertaken by unions to transform organizational practice and culture in order to ensure fairness and representation for women and members of other equity-seeking groups.
