Horne, CharlesFonds consists of a manuscript for Hose’s book, The Birds of Borneo, and a map of Borneo. The manuscript of The Birds of Borneo is an unbound, handwritten copy of the work. The book opens with a discussion of the kinds of bird species that live on Borneo. The book then lists the individual species of each order that were found on Borneo, giving the taxonomic entry for the species, as well as more detailed information of behaviour and habitat. There are blank spaces where there were to be illustrations of the birds added to the printed text. The map of Borneo is a small, foldable item, with cloth reinforcing the folds. The inside of the map is a printed map of Borneo, by James Wyld, Geographer to the Queen. The map appears to have been hand-coloured by C. Hose.
