This fonds consists of records created or accumulated by Alf Hales in his capacity as a Member of Parliament, a local politician, a Kiwanis Club President and member, and a Guelph business owner. The records document the federal elections in which Alf was a candidate, the financial and promotional activities of the Hales Meat Market, and various social functions that he participated in with the Guelph Kiwanis Club. A large part of the fonds is comprised of scrapbooks assembled by, or on behalf of, Alf Hales that contain newspaper clippings, correspondence, and photographs.

The fonds consists of records generated in pursuit of the Canadian Guernsey Breeders' Association's mandate, and document the Associations' involvement within the dairy industry over time. Also included are records and published items related to a number of dairy organisations, including the Advanced Registry Board, Channel Islands Breeds Milk Producers' Association, Golden Guernsey Distributors, Joint Dairy Breeds Committee, Guernsey Cattle Breeders' Association of Ontario, and the Toronto Guernsey Breeders' Association.

Collection consists of city directories, which since 1875, have made up of two parts: an alphabetic listing of people’s last names giving their occupation and home address and of street names. The directories may also contain advertisements of local area businesses and brief facts on population and average household income. Earlier directories included communities other than Guelph such as Erin, Peel, Minto and Puslinch Townships.

The directories are arranged chronologically by year.

The Guelph Public Library does not have directories available for the years 1910, 1946, 1948, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1956, 1958, 1960, 1962, and 1965.

The fonds is divided into twelve sous fonds. The sous fonds have been created based on the functional nature and organizational structure of the Corporation of the City of Guelph.

Collection consists of one postcard album and several loose postcards. The postcards offer a wide range of images covering various aspects of the city of Guelph and its history. Included are images of Park Ave, Paisley street, London road, main street, Eramora road, Bell Piano and Organ Company, the Opera House, and Jubilee Park. Images of the Speed River and various panoramic views of Guelph are also evident. There are also photographs taken by 19th photographers such as W. Marshall and T. Smith. The album includes approximately 40 pieces of paper ephemera.

Byerly, and a copy of The Torch which includes an inserted piece of paper pretaining to David McCrae's family. There are also newspaper clippings various newspapers about John McCrae.
