Collection consists of documents in the German language which originated in Germany during the Second World War. Many are translated into English. They also include: documents relating to research on specific aspects of the First World War; lists of documents held in other archives; and some secondary published material about German military history in general. Fonds consists of files from the Directorate of Military Operations and Planning. Files mainly consist of meeting minutes, memoranda, draft reports and proposed amendments. There are also defence plans and research papers from Canada and NATO. The majority of the documents evaluate the Soviet threat during the Cold War, and focus on security and military preparations in response to rising tensions. The files are arranged in numerical order according to the file numbers created by the Central Registry system. There are 17 series:

Fonds consists of four folders and one report regarding reserve training in the mid-1990's. Folders 1 and 2 are concerned with the concepts of the Area Readiness Training Company (ARTC) at Meaford. Folder 3 highlights the concepts for militia combat evaluation methodology. Folder 4 contains unit evaluations and the report provides the Annual Training Directive for 1997-1998. The folders are arranged in chronological order.

Fonds consists of material generated by W.A.B. Douglas during his tenure as Director of History. Fonds consists of the working files of Vice-Admiral Herbert S. Rayner generated and maintained during his term as Chief of the Naval Staff (1960-1964). Includes subject files, reports, studies and public relations material. Also includes a small portion of Rayner's correspondence with Sir Caspar John, George Whalen Anderson and Frank Birch Caldwell, Naval Member, Canadian Joint Staff London. There are also transcripts of statements made by the Minister of National Defence, Paul Hellyer and the Associate Minister of Defence, Louis-Joseph-Lucien Cardin. There are 5 series.

Fonds consists of one bound photograph album as well as a cartoon sketch of Air Commandant, Wing Officer W.M. Taylor presented to her as a gift in February 1946, which the photographs document. Photos also document the activities of the CWAFF during the Second World War, including arrivals and departures in Canada and England, portraits, inspections by Air Commandant Taylor, women posted overseas, activities at the Princess Alice Barracks which opened in 1944, the Canadian Air Force Women's Division Band and parades.

C.P. Stacey fonds

Fonds consists of material on the preliminary narrative "Canadian Military Policy in Canada and Adjacent Regions". Includes sixteen chapters, one index and one file of correspondence between the Department of National Defence and the Army Historical Section (including C.P. Stacey) concerning the writing of this narrative. The chapters in this work were compiled by various military historians, including Lieutenant-Colonel. C.F.G. Stanley, J.B. Conacher, Captain T.M. Hunter, Major Wrinch and Major Oglesby. Also includes memoranda between Directorate of History staff to C.P. Stacey regarding answers to various inquiries for verification of military historical information. The last file of the fonds contains a finding aid to the Stacey Papers at the University of Toronto Archives.

Fonds consists of material reflecting the bilingual state of the Dept. of National Defence for the 1972-1996 period. These years represent an era during which the French language was officially recognized as equal to English and steps were taken to implement this policy. Includes briefings of Official Languages presentations and Bilingual State Reports emanating from the National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) Data Center in Borden, Ontario. Also includes recapitulation reports, graphs of quotas and listings of establishment.
