Grant family fonds

Fonds consists of two photograph albums, a scrapbook, various newspaper clippings, and research notes documenting the life and work of The Rev. Dr. Andrew Grant. Photographs in the albums primarily document Dr. Grant's work and family life while minister in the Yukon. Other photographs within the albums include: family portraits, pictures of the family at their home in Rosedale and at their cottage on Lake Simcoe, and pictures of the Manse in Almonte, Ontario. The scrapbook, newspaper clippings and research notes were collected and compiled by Caroline W. Grant and document the life of her father. The fonds also includes some correspondence and personal mementoes of Dr. Grant, two WWI postcards sent by Oswald Grant to his Mother in 1915, and a file of letters of sympathy received by Mrs. A.S. Grant following the death of her husband in 1935.

Fonds consists of photographs, academic work, Christian Education resources, course materials, worship materials, workshop materials, and various other writings which document Dr. Goggin’s career as an educator in the field of Christian Education, a minister at Knox Presbyterian Church in Oakville, and professor at Ewart College and Knox College. Photographs include portraits of Dr. Goggin as well as photographs from her classes at Ewart College. Academic work includes essays and papers written by Dr. Goggin during the course of obtaining her BA, BD, and MEd, as well as her doctoral thesis and accompanying research materials. Christian Education resources primarily consist of materials created by Dr. Goggin and used for the Christian Education program at Knox Presbyterian Church, Oakville, including "The Presbyterian Family Tree" and "The Book We Call the Bible". Resources focus on Church history, biblical criticism, and study skills. Course materials include session plans, handouts, course outlines, bibliographies, assignment sheets, notes, and articles for classes taught by Dr. Goggin at Ewart College and Knox College. Worship materials are comprised of sermons, litanies, orders of service, prayers and other worship related materials. Sermons delivered at Knox Presbyterian Church, Oakville are predominant but also present are sermons delivered at Ewart College, funeral services, and at Knox Sixteen Presbyterian Church in Oakville. Worship materials also include litanies that were written for services at Knox Church, Oakville and Ewart College. Dr. Goggin taught several academic workshops including Faith in a Technological World, Religion in a Post Modern World, and the Elderhostle Programme on Faith Journeying. Materials from these workshops include session plans, notes, background materials, handouts, and questionnaires. The writings of Dr. Goggin are comprised of hymns, papers, book chapters, articles, letters to the editor, book reviews, article responses, and correspondence often relating to the publication of Dr. Goggin’s writings. Fonds also consists of correspondence, itineraries, reports, and a script for a slide presentation from Dr. Goggin’s participation in a exchange program between British and Canadian Christian Educators.

Fonds consists of correspondence, reports, newspaper articles, diaries, school records, and photographs. Records document the life of Louise and Henry Percival Luttrell as missionaries in Honan Province, China, and then as employees of the Peking Syndicate. Correspondence includes letters sent between the Luttrells and their sons while they were at the Boys School in Chefoo; correspondence between Henry Percival Luttrell and the General Board of Missions of The Presbyterian Church in Canada; and letters documenting the Luttrell family’s preparation to return to Canada. Newspaper articles include clippings about Rev. Luttrell as well as articles that he wrote about China for the Presbyterian newspaper "East and West". The fonds also includes a diary kept by Louise Luttrell in 1916, and a daily journal for 1917.

Hugh Ketchen fonds

Fonds consists of sermons, addresses and articles written by Beverley Ketchen. The sermons, of which there are 175, cover a variety of topics, and were written between the years 1920 and 1952. Eulogies given by Ketchen for Dr. J.B. McQuesten, Dr. McIlwraith, and Dr. Donald McKerral also form a part of the fonds. The addresses, many of which are based on either a patriotic or literary theme, were written for a variety of different organisations and associations, including Masonic Lodges, Knox College (Toronto), the Synod of Hamilton and London, and the Burns Society of New York. The fonds also consists of several files of photocopies of correspondence, addresses, news articles about Beverley Ketchen, bulletins and annual reports of MacNab Street Presbyterian Church, and a pamphlet on the history of Brucefield Church (where Ketchen was raised). A signed copy of his book, "Sons of Martha", is also included in the fonds

Fonds consists of diaries; a book of poems, writings and newsclippings of Hugh MacMillan; a typescript biography of Dr. Gushue-Taylor written by Hugh MacMillan; a newspaper clipping in which Hugh MacMillan talks about Dr. Gushue-Taylor; a short paper entitled "Unmelon-like Rock"; a booklet written by Hugh MacMillan entitled "Youth in a Younger Church". The book was published by the Presbyterian Church in Formosa (Taiwan). The majority of the items in the fonds document Hugh MacMillan’s life and work in Formosa.

James Hannay family fonds

Fonds consists primarily of 43 sermons written by Rev. James Hannay between the years 1835 and 1851. The sermons, each of which has either a title or a biblical reference as a header, are contained in three loosely bound volumes. The majority of sermons were written and delivered during Rev. Hannay’s time as minister in Richibucto, New Brunswick. However, on many of the sermons there is also a second or third date noted from a time when Rev. Hannay had returned to Scotland. Included in the bound volumes are two addresses given by Rev. Hannay on the topic of temperance, delivered at the meetings of a temperance society, presumably in Richibucto. The fonds also contains two small typescript drafts on the history of Presbyterianism in New Brunswick written by James Hannay, son of Rev. Hannay.

Fonds consists primarily of sermons and addresses written by Rev. McLean. The sermons date from 1927 to the 1980s, and to a large extent the organization of the sermons was established by Rev. McLean. Notes on the back of the majority of the sermons give the date and location each sermon was delivered, and the date and location if it was re-delivered. Fonds also consists of photographs, personal mementos, a divine service book, his personal sermon register, prayers, notes, and orders of service from his guest preaching engagements across Canada and the United States of America.

John Jennings fonds

Fonds consists of thirty-four sermons written and delivered by John Jennings, as well as a dedication address given at the opening of Bay Street Presbyterian Church in Toronto on December 30th, 1848, and a diary maintained by Jennings while on a trip overseas. Thirty-three of the sermons are hand-written in a version of shorthand which is partly readable, and delivered between 1842 and 1852. The other sermon is a printed booklet of a memorial sermon for Miss Margaret MacDonald, given by Jennings at Bay Street Church, Toronto in 1868. The dedication address given by Jennings at the opening of the church is also in partial shorthand. The diary is of a trip taken by Jennings between May 31st and September 8th, 1873, primarily to Scotland, but also to mainland Europe as well. The diary was written in pencil and is difficult to read. A typescript of the entries in the diary has been created

John Ross family fonds

Fonds consists of records of the Rev. John Ross, his wife Anna Ross, and their daughter Elizabeth Ross Grace. The notes and writings of Elizabeth Ross Grace form the majority of the records in the fonds. The records of John Ross consist of a diary dated 21 March 1874 – 30 October 1874. The diary includes information about where he went, people he saw, biblical passages read, and meetings held. The records of Elizabeth Ross Grace consist of notes, drafts, resource materials, correspondence, newspaper clippings, diary entries, and personal mementos. The notes, drafts, and resource materials deal primarily with ecumenism and various aspects of church history including the disruption of 1844, the union of The Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1875, and Church Union of 1925. Photographs are of various members of the Grace family and places in India. The correspondence includes incoming and outgoing letters from colleagues, acquaintances, and Elizabeth Grace’s children. The newsclippings include published versions of Elizabeth Grace’s Letters-to-the-Editor and other items which were of interest to her. Integrated within the files of Elizabeth Ross Grace are also some writings of Anna Ross, the mother of Elizabeth Ross Grace and the wife of John Ross.
