The fonds consists of notes, photocopies of research materials, course outlines and bibliographies for George Tatham's geography courses offered at York University and the University of Toronto in the fields of political, social and physical geography, as well as notes taken during his student years. In addition, there are glass slides used for teaching purposes. The fonds also includes three audio cassette tapes and typed transcripts of interviews conducted by John Hardy of the York University Archives with Tatham concerning the early years of York University. The interviews were conducted in 1975-1976.

The fonds consists of transcripts of taped interviews in several languages (Ukrainian, French, English, Italian, Cantonese) conducted by Gérald Gold in 1981 with residents of ethnic communities in Timmins, Ontario. In addition, there are photocopies and typed excerpts of articles from the 'Porcupine advance,' [newspaper] dealing with ethnic relations in the region, 1912-1950, and photocopies and typescripts of articles and essays dealing with ethnic communities in Timmins. There is also a photocopy of a mine company payroll for the year 1941.

In addition, there is material from the League for Social Reconstruction, including minutes of meetings of the National Executive (1936-1941), membership material, and reports from the National Convention (1936), as well as newspaper clippings and related material. For the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation there are minutes, campaign material, and newspaper clippings relating to the London (Ont.) Riding Association (1938-1946).

The fonds contains Hans Carol's lecture notes, examinations, course outlines and evaluations, bibliographies, student essays, and related material for courses taught in the Department of Geography (Africa, Urban, patterns of land use, methodologies) and Social Science (1962-1971). There is correspondence relating to publications, professional activities and related material. There are also maps and charts of the following regions: Zurich, with regard to urban planning; African geography, including physical, social, agricultural, demographic and related maps; urban planning and land use in Ontario regions (Metropolitan Toronto, Hamilton). The fonds contains several boxes of newspaper clippings relating to Africa (1954-1971), Canada (1962-1970), the USSR, China and allied countries (1959-1964), Regional Government and Development in Ontario (1966-1971), and related topics in several countries.

Boyle's career as a broadcaster, including sound recordings of programmes, interviews, and speeches; transcripts of speeches (1968-1973) delivered while working for the CBC and the CRTC; personal and administrative files while chairman of the CRTC and during his tenure at the Banff School of Fine Arts. There are files related to the writing and publishing of his books, and articles and stories published during his years as a journalist with the Toronto Telegram. Also included are items from Mr. Boyle's library about communications, broadcasting, and advertising.
