Fonds consists of Journals of Discussions and Decisions of the Permanent Joint Board on Defence (PJBD) for meetings 1-99, 114-129, 142-172, & 184-193; minutes of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO’s) Canada-United States Regional Planning Committee for meetings 1-51 & 55-98; Minutes of the CANUS Planners’ Conference, 6th - 12th conferences; and of photocopies of material selected from RG 59 at the U.S. National Archives in Washington, D.C. and related to the work of the PJBD, including correspondence dealing with such topics as the Northwest River staging field, the Alaskan Highway, Canadian labour problems, etc. between the respective Canadian and American secretaries to the Board. The fonds also includes three files on Appointments, Promotions and Retirements for the Canadian Militia and Canadian Active Service Force, dated 18 January 1940 and the 19 August 1940.

Fonds consists of Fortress Orders for the Military District No. 6 (HQ Halifax) from the period 1908 to 1909 that are catalogued as 95/82 and three original volumes of Fortress Orders for the Military District No. 6 (HQ Halifax) from the period 1914 to 1916 that are catalogued as 2003/42. The Fortress Orders consist of instructions regarding garrison duties, mobilization, gun practice, rations, court martials as well as inspections of CEF units, etc. The three volumes from 1914 to 1916 also include one colour image entitled “Canadian Soldier” from the painting by Lilias Torrance Newton, RCA.

The next 54 files consists of tables of organization (personnel, weapons, transport) and equipment for various units of the Canadian Army Pacific Force. The last file includes Order of Battle and Photo Interpreter Teams.

Fonds consists of seventeen personal diaries regarding headquarters troops, armour, artillery, engineers and infantry during the Second World War. The diaries were handed in by soldiers of the Canadian Active Service Force to War Diaries Section, Canadian Military Headquarters, usually when it appeared that the diarists would be going into action in the near future. The diaries appear to have been part of a much larger collection, the rest of which were returned to the authors after the war. Most of the diaries deal with life in England. Only the diary of Warrant Officer I G. Esper was maintained while his formation was in action in Sicily. Also includes 106 photos of military and civil topics and 22 post cards of Worthing, England and London under fire. There are four series:
