The photographs primarily show close relatives of Eva Marguerite Haight, who went by Marguerite, and later married Russell Zavitz. The Collection primarily contains historical notes made by Glenn Alward from scrapbooks his father created comprised of newspaper clippings documenting the community history of Port Burwell. Alward's father was Harry O. Alward, former Reeve of Port Burwell. The Collection also contains an assortment of newspaper clippings regarding events in Port Burwell, and Harry Alward's contribution to the community.

The collection consists of photographs created by Henry G Hines (Harry) and William H. Hines (Bill) over the course of the operation of his photographic studio in London from 1906-1929. The collection includes original glass plate photographic negatives commissioned by various City of London affiliates, local businesses, private individuals and the photographer's personal photographs. There are images of London with focus in east London mainly of industry, manufacturing and commercial for promotion and Port Stanley scenes. Also included are prints, and copies of Hines' photographs collected by Alan Noon and copy prints and digital images of all photographs created by Noon and given as part of the donation.

Fonds consists of approximately 200 file cards with typescript summaries of notices originally published 1902-1918 in the St. Thomas Daily Times, the St. Thomas Evening Journal, London Free Press and other newspapers relating to the Southwestern Traction Company, the London and Lake Erie Railway and Transportation Company, and the London & Port Stanley Railway.

Collection contains several thousand items, including correspondence, photographs, personnel records, financial records, subscription books, lease agreements, maps, plans and drawings from a number of railway companies that operated in Elgin County. This includes the Michigan Central Railroad, the London & Port Stanley Railway, the Pere Marquette Railway Company, the Grand Trunk Railway, the Wabash Railroad Company, Canada Southern, the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Company, the Canadian National Railways, the Canadian Pacific Railway, and the Consolidated Rail Company (Conrail), as well as many of their subsidiary companies. There is a strong emphasis on the Michigan Central Railroad and the London and Port Stanley Railway.

The collection provides insight into the day-to-day interactions between local businesses, residents and the railway companies that were operating in Elgin County and increases our understanding of the county’s economic development over time. The collection documents changes in the county’s built environment as a result of the development of railway in the area, and illustrates the evolution of railway technology from early steam engines to electrified and high-speed rail.

The collection also includes personal records belonging to Ken Verrell, reflecting his role in various local organizations and his interest in railway history.
