Series consists of material documenting the movements and organization of Royal Navy (British) and Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) escort and support groups during the Second World War. Includes naval messages, reports of proceedings, memoranda, notes, correspondence and other documents for Mid-Ocean Escort Force (MOEF) “B”, “C” and “EG” groups, as well as Western Escort Force (WEF) “W” group. These groups included both escort and support groups. British and Canadian escort groups were assigned to convoys and stayed close to them in order to protect them, whereas support groups searched for submarines in order to destroy them and were not necessarily part of a convoy. Material focuses on anti-submarine activity, detailing searches and attacks on submarines. Documents date from 1940 to 1964, but primarily cover the period 1942 to1945.
Series consists of material detailing the movements of Canadian, British and foreign ships during the Second World War. There are 30 bound volumes arranged alphabetically and indicating the class, dates of arrival and departure, location and remarks for each British and foreign vessel. Also includes three boxes of cards for Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) ships and 1 box of cards for British and foreign ships. Arranged alphabetically, each card indicates the ship’s class, infomation regarding arrivals and departures (in some cases indicating location), dates and remarks. There is also 1 box of ships’ information cards for the RCN which includes infomation regarding construction, statistics, armament and complement. Finally, in 2010 8 boxes of ships' movement cards were added as 2010/15. They are in alphabetical order by ships' names and concern both Canadian and foreign ships.
Series consists of material published by the Royal Canadian Navy discussing the tasks, equipment and technical and operational capacities of various ships employed by the Navy. Includes minutes of meetings and memoranda, but largely consists of pamphlets from the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Warfare) documenting naval staff requirements for various types of vessels. Documents date from 1950 to 1962, but are primarily from 1954.
