Fonds consist of three Tweedsmuir scrapbooks compiled by the Carmel Women's Institute and nine volumes of minute books.

The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, photographs, and reports of local history and the Carmel Women's Institute. Subjects covered within the scrapbooks are World War II, excursions of the group, local businesses and news about the community.

The minute books cover the years 1949-2001 and include accounting information for the Institute. Some have lists of meetings, attendance registers and lists of members.

Collection consists of various historic Port Hope materials, 1873-1960. Please refer to series, file, and item-level descriptions for more detailed information.

Fonds consists of various papers created and collected by the family and descendants of Nathan Choate, 1817-1975. It documents the history of members of the family, as well as local buildings, churches, businesses, and the history of the Municipality of Port Hope.

The fonds documents Clayton Ruby's activities as a lawyer and activist. Records consist of professional correspondence and subject files. General correspondence is mostly with politicians, colleagues, and the Law Society. Subjects file topics include: the Law Society, Advocates Society, Amnesty International, Conferences, Law Reform Commission, Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice, and the Charter of Rights Education Fund. Also included are various photographic portraits of Clayton Ruby.

Series consists of land records, financial records, and correspondence related to the sale of John Cleverton's farm located on Lots 29 and 30 of Hamilton Township to Sarah Jane Long and Alfred H.C. Long, 1918-1926.

The fonds consists of minute and cash books, Tweedsmuir History Books, photographs, house histories, and subject files pertaining to the activities of the Cloyne Women’s Institute. The collection contains the 19 issues published between January 1979 and November 1983. The newsletter examined the economic, environmental, political and social challenges then facing Northern Ontario communities.

The fonds consists of memoranda from the Committee for an Independent Canada to members, and a series of policy papers on corporate accountability, natural resources and the visual arts in Canada.

File consists of two (2) copies of "A Community Service of Thanksgiving to Almighty God V-J Day" at the Cenotaph Central Park, Port Hope. Both feature "1945" written on front.

The fonds consists of annual reports of the Consumers' Gas Company (1849-1925) [incomplete], minutes of the Board of Directors' meetings (1947-1925), minutes of special Board meetings, taken from the secretary's and president's notes and agendas; minutes of the Finance Committee (1852-1874), of the Works Committee (1853-1873), and of selected meetings of the Executive Committee (1805-1909). As well, there is a run of 'Street lamps' [publication] (1887-1906).

File consists of correspondence between Tom Long and W. Arnott Craick, author of "Little Tales of Old Port Hope" from 1964-1966. During this time Peter Schulz of the Port Hope Guide wished to reprint the book. Correspondence concerns the reprinting, receiving permission for reprinting and photograph sources.

The fonds consist of records related to the history of the Crawford family. They are arranged into the following series and subseries:
Series 1: Diaries
Subseries A: Benjamin Benedict Crawford (1800, 1810-1859)

• This Series consists primarily of diaries of Benjamin B. Crawford. These include a diary of a trip to Upper Canada in 1800, as well as yearly diaries from 1810 to 1859. Diary entries relate to; the weather; farm activities; social events in the community; births, marriages and deaths of his family and his neighbours; experiments with crops and prices of supplies and produce; Kings County court sessions; the Rebellion of 1837; elections; and services in the Anglican church in the Ingersoll area. Daniel Nathan Crawford, the eleventh child of Benjamin Benedict Crawford, continued his father’s diary during the latter’s final illness, and after his death for the remainder of 1859.
• This subseries also includes transcripts of a majority of the diaries, made by Blanche Crawford, in 1938.

Subseries B: James Augustus Crawford (1865-1882)

• The diaries of James Augustus Crawford, a son of Benjamin Benedict Crawford, note farm duties, and family and community activities.

Subseries C: Leeman Wallace Crawford (1877)

• The diary of Leeman Wallace Crawford (son of James Augustus Crawford, and a carriage- maker at London), contain entries describing his work, with some references to politics, and family and community affairs.

Subseries D: Charles W.A. Crawford (1848-1875)

• The diaries of Charles W.A. Crawford contain description of his daily work, including purchases, sales, and debts related to his farming businesses. These diaries have been transcribed by a member of the Crawford family.

Subseries E: Eliza Georgina Crawford Nichols (1930-1945)

• The diaries of Eliza Georgina Crawford continue daily musings of people and events.

Series 2: Correspondence [18-- ] – [1995] (not inclusive)

• Includes correspondence of various members of the Crawford family concerning personal and family matters. Letters also include correspondence to/from Ruth (nee Crawford) Ellis regarding family genealogy.

Series 3: Writings of Christopher Colin Crawford (ca. 1880s)

• Includes unpublished manuscript writings (poetry and prose). Tiles are as follows:

Series 4: Genealogy ([18-- ] – 2007)

• A very complete and detailed genealogy of the generations of the Crawford family in North America beginning with John and Jane Henderson Crawford, whom arrived in Connecticut, United States from Ireland. It contains dates and places of birth, marriages and deaths; details on families into which Crawfords married; and often a description of the individuals the early genealogy was prepared in 1927 by Mrs. Olive Arnold Crawford of Ingersoll, Ontario, with the assistance of certain relatives, while the later and more complete family history was completed by Ruth Ellis.
• Includes research papers and notes, newspaper clippings, and photographs, as well as a copy of “The Crawford Family” by Ruth Ellis.

Series 5: Almanacs (1761, 1814-1853)

• Contains New Brunswick, New England, Maine, Canada West Farmer’s Almanacs, and several Medical Almanacs. These are arranged alphabetically according to the locality for which they were calculated. Occasionally, a diary was bound into an Almanac, and these volumes have been stored with the diaries.

Item is an invitation to a Social Assembly at the home of David Gillespie, King Street, 17 Apr 1843. One hundred (100) invitations were printed. The men involved with the assembly were: John Linn, Samuel Hutton, George Henderson, James Nelson and David Gillespie.

The fonds documents Daniel Cappon's administrative activities as professor at the University of Toronto; his research in psychiatry. The fonds consists minutes, correspondence and papers, studies, audio-visual materials.

File consists of a DVD including David Doherty's "Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope" Oral History Project interview; and a paper copy of the interview transcript, 2013. The interview was edited and uploaded to YouTube with the following description: "Join the Port Hope Archives as we speak to [former] PHA Board Member/Secretary, Dave Doherty, about local businesses and other downtown memories" and the Beaver Athletic Association.

File consists of a DVD including [former Municipality of Port Hope Councillor] David Turck's "Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope" Oral History Project interview; and a paper copy of the interview transcript, 2013. The interview was edited and uploaded to YouTube with the following description: "In this video we interview Port Hope resident David Turck. He recalls his memories of living downtown and working in his father's restaurant for the "Our Memories: Downtown Port Hope" Oral History Project."

File consists of one (1) document registered at the registry office for the Port Hope Mechanics Institute. The document outlines the purpose of the Institute and it's chartered members. The members each paid $5.00 and signed their names as members. Some of the legible signatures include: David Smart, H. G. Taylor, J. Galbraith, W. Quay, J. B. Trayes, Duncan Chisholm.
