Canadian Human Rights Commission complaint files

Series consists of records regarding Robinson’s complaint to the Canadian Human Rights Commission. The complaint alleged that the House of Commons of Canada, as represented by the Board of Internal Economy, was denying certain benefits to Members of Parliament, their employees and employees of the House, on the basis of sexual orientation, in contravention of Section 10 of the Canadian Human Rights Act. The series includes correspondence, reports, memoranda, notes, copies of complaint forms, newspaper clippings, minutes, and post cards.

This series primarily contains correspondence supporting the inclusion of sexual orientation in the Canadian Human Rights Act, responses to Robinson’s “Ottawa Update” publication, letters regarding Robinson’s public coming out, and constituent concerns on Bill C-250 (hate propaganda). The series includes correspondence, notes, memoranda, newspaper clippings, lists, and issues of “Ottawa Inside Out” and “Ottawa Update”, and photographs.
