Series consists of the minute books of the Fire, Light and Water Committee for the periods of 1903-1905 and 1919-1923. Included in these records are committee reports to Council, recommendations as to the structure and salaries for the fire brigade, purchase of firefighting equipment and supplies, payment of accounts, and Fire Chief inspections of buildings. These records also include the committee's recommendations to Council regarding the repair and maintenance of the City's water works, laying of pipes and watermains, filtration systems, and water quality issues. Additionally, the committee also dealt with the issue of the purchase of the Guelph Light and Power Company, street lighting, gas works and electrical plant expansions. These records document the wide ranging role that the Fire, Light and Water Committee played in the management of the Fire Department, water works and the gas and electrical facilities in the City of Guelph.
