CA ON00391 M13-M15 · Fonds · 1894-1952

Fonds consists of fire insurance plans documenting contemporary building features for the purpose of assessing fire risk. Information includes the type of construction, number of storeys and proximity to other buildings. Each plan consists of a number of sections which, when assembled together, constitute a complete map of the town/village at that time, with street and building names clearly indicated. Buildings are also colour coded according to the type of fabrication, with colours corresponding to a key plan on the first section. Periodically, these plans were revised. Dates of revision are clearly marked. These plans provide a detailed overview of contemporary community development and are an invaluable source of information for dating buildings and for use in matters such as environmental site assessments. Fonds is comprised of the following series: Belmont, 1894; Fingal, 1896; Shedden, 1896; Vienna, 1896; West Lorne, 1906; Springfield, 1906; Port Stanley, 1925; Rodney, 1926; St. Thomas, 1922 (Revised and Reprinted 1929); Port Burwell, 1896; Dutton, 1946; Aylmer, 1952.

Graves (family)
Collection · 1907-2003

These papers were collected as part of a comprehensive study into the life and career of Colonel Thomas Talbot, the early nineteenth-century settlement agent whose authority extended over much of what is now southwestern Ontario. The research was conducted by Guy St-Denis in various archival repositories with the intention of publishing a new biography of Talbot. After the project was discontinued, the photocopied documents were preserved in hopes of being useful to future scholars of Talbot and his settlement. The files were compiled ca. 1985-2003.
This collection is primarily comprised of secondary source material (reference copies). However, there are a number of original records, including newspaper articles, booklets and programmes, 1907-1977.

Harry Jamieson Hart fonds
Fonds · 1915-1922, predominant 1915-1918

Fonds consists of correspondence from Harry Jamieson Hart to his mother and father while away at medical school in Toronto, subsequent military training camps, and letters from the front while serving overseas in England and France during the First World War. Some of these letters come with the original envelopes. Fonds also consists of diary entries of his initial trip to England and a few miscellaneous letters from other family members. Most letters contain a substantial amount of information on Harry’s experiences in the Canadian military. They recount his training, trip overseas, stationing in England and service in France. Many contain references to previous letters received from his mom and family. He was particularly concerned about his father’s ailing health and eventual death in May 1917. There is also information on the weather, his health and his military involvement, although the latter is kept to a minimum due to censorship considerations and perhaps his desire to enjoy the diversion the letters provided. Letters were sent from his house in Toronto while at medical school, the Canadian Officers’ Training Corps (C.O.T.C) Niagara Military Camp, Petawawa Military Training Camp, the Ross Barracks in Shorncliffe, England and France. Fonds is comprised of the following series: 1. Graduation Memorabilia (1922) 2. Letters from School, Toronto (Mar. 24-June 20, 1916) 3. Letters from Petawawa, C.O.T.C Niagara (Sept. 03-Oct. 14, 1916) 4. Diary of Trip Overseas (Oct. 21-Nov. 2, 1916) 5. Letters while stationed in England, Nov. 9, 1916-Jan. 11, 1917, Sept. 6, 1918) 6.
