This series consists of booklets, minutes, correspondence, and forms that relate to managing the Associates program. There are three booklets in this series. The first booklet includes the roles and responsibilities of Sisters and the congregation in implementing the Associates program. The second booklet includes information on the process of becoming an Associate, and the roles and responsibilities. Lastly, the third booklet highlights the importance of mutuality and collaboration between Sisters and Associates in relation to the mission of charism. There are also correspondence and procedures from Sister Virginia Varley to the Sisters with regards to establishing the Associates program in 1986. Additionally, there are meeting minutes of coordinators of the Associates program, as well as, suggested guidelines for co-membership. The series also includes guidelines on Associate demise (related to leaving the program), charism renewal forms, Charism Connection ceremony mutual agreements, and various correspondence related to the corporate stance of Associates, including letters sent to Parliament officials.

This series consists of correspondence, prayers, a presentation on “CSJ Spirituality for Seekers”, lists of Associates, retreat agendas, gathering and prayer agendas, programs, and agendas for virtual gatherings via Skype (VOIP) calls, and a training manual. There are records outlining the requirements for formation of potential members to the Associate program, and correspondence regarding potentials members.

This series includes correspondence about the Associates Program, including between Sr. Doreen Kraemer, Director of the Associates Program and Associates, and between Sr. Mary Diesbourg, General Superior and Associates, about the current state of their activities. The series also includes information about the vision for the Associates and the program. There are also meeting notes and reports, as well as drafts and final copies of speeches given about the charism and the Associates. This series also includes information about the Associates/Companion Prayer Project. Also found in this series are histories of the Canadian Associate Networking committee and the congregational Associate Program, event invitations, and a brochure for the Associates Program. There are newspaper clippings concerning the benefits of palliative care and efforts to halt the abuse of women. Finally, there are talking points for a video about spirituality in the modern world, and a speech linking charism and alcoholism recovery by Francis Ann Gilchrist.

Directories and Lists

This series contains various directories and Associate lists. The directories are small booklets arranged in chronological order which contain the name, address, and phone numbers of all Associates from the years 1992-2007. These booklets are internally organized by geographical group within southwestern Ontario. There are alphabetical lists of Associates indicating the year they became Associates, and which city they are Associated with. Notably, there are three albums which are larger booklets that contain photographs of members, divided by city. There are agreements from 1995-2012 between the Associates and their directors but these are for Associates who have subsequently withdrawn from the program. There is also correspondence indicating the withdrawal of two Associates from Yellowknife, NWT.

This series contains information about North American and regional Ontario, Canada conferences for the Congregation’s Associates. The series is divided into two subseries, covering Associate conferences and Associate commitment ceremonies. Included in this series are pamphlets, itineraries, correspondence, lists of participants, photographs, programs, reflective exercises, interviews, and music books. There is an account of the advent of the North American Associates including prior and future conference sessions, information on the 25th Anniversary meeting in 2014, and information on Charism Connection ceremonies at which a formal commitment is made by an Associate to the community.

Federation

This series consists of correspondence and reports relating to the Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada, an umbrella organization for the Sisters of St. Joseph congregations in Canada. The Federation’s mission is to support each congregation in living out the charism of active and inclusive love and collaborating globally with other congregations of the Sisters of St. Joseph. The Federation has an Associates/Companions committee that supports and provides a communications network for Associate directors in the three Canadian congregations.

This series contains surveys, survey notes, reports, correspondence, pamphlets and promotional materials, and news clippings. The correspondence includes significant contributions from Sr. Janet Zadorsky who administered the Associates Program after Sr. Doreen Kraemer, and along with reports, focus on meetings and committee members of the Federation. Also included are pamphlets and promotional materials pertaining to events the Federation sponsored. There is a Sudbury region report details the activities of a Federation conference held in Sudbury, Ontario, in May 2017. Finally, there is a survey and summary of the results. The survey was from the Federation to Associate group leaders aiming to collect information on Associate directors to better plan Federation programs and facilitate connection between directors.

This series consists of three folders, arranged in chronological order, containing financial information for the Associates Program. Records include notes from animating team meetings regarding the development of criteria for accessing assistance from the congregational grant, application forms and grant criteria, and income and expense reports. This series also contains correspondence regarding Associates Program expenditures and plans for the Associate leadership team in 2017.

This series documents the history of the Associates program and the histories of two congregational houses in London. Textual records created between 2009 to 2017 outline the history of the Associates program, which was approved on July 9, 1987, and launched in London on April 4, 1989. Textual records created in 1999 to 2006 outline the history of the Congregation and Associate presence, training, and retreats at 1294 Baseline Road and 501 Windermere Road in London, Ontario. Included in the series are history timelines, as well as booklets from the Associates’ 20th anniversary, which was held on April 4th, 2009. Also included in this series are correspondence, meeting minutes, and regional updates regarding activities, events, and new Associate members.

Leadership

This series primarily comprises correspondence, presentations, conference and retreat outlines, meeting minutes, membership information policies, lists of Associates, prayers, and mentorship information.

Agrégées are lay people who commit themselves to an active role with the spirituality of the charism and mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph. They make a promise to abide by rules and responsibilities of membership in a non-canonical capacity. The Agrégée is a status in between that of vowed members and Associates and they commit to practicing a discerning life that is open and responsive to the movement of the spirit; commit to the spirit of poverty, chastity, and obedience according to their personal situation; participate in congregational meetings; make a financial investment in the community according to their personal situation; attend regular retreats; and attend to her spiritual life. There are still many unknowns about the program; it is an organic, evolving model. This series contains information on the Agrégées program, including the constitution for canonical and non-canonical members comparing the two roles, a history of how the Agrégées program came about, and an interview with two Sisters from 2011 regarding the program.

Other materials in this series include information about mentorship Animators. The Animators are senior Associates who have been committed Associates for at least three years. Included in this series are administrative materials detailing the roles and responsibilities of Animators, and how to select and endorse Animator and Associate Animator candidates. Also included are lists of nominees for these positions, and the final lists of the chosen Animator and Associate Animators.
This series also includes both Congregational leadership and Associate leadership correspondence and minutes of Leadership Team conference calls.

Mentors assist the London Site Associate community by supporting Animators and Core Team Members as they fulfill their leadership responsibilities. Also included in this series are the Mentor Evolution Circle meeting minutes and information about the roles and responsibilities of Mentors.

This series contains volumes 1-50 of the newsletter “Bridging” spanning from 1991-2016 and produced by the Congregation’s Associate Core Team (ACT) members. Two volumes were published each year, usually in the winter and summer, but sometimes in the fall and spring. This newsletter was intended to inform people about the Associate relationship in the Congregation and to keep the Associates up to date with news about events. Each newsletter has its own theme, such as, service, relationship with the Divine, and longing for belonging. Common sections throughout the newsletters are poems, “mark your calendar” sections, suggestions for readings, news about events, fundraisers, and retreats, introduction of new members, and updates from various Associate communities. These communities include Maidstone, St. Thomas, Windsor, Chatham, Kingsville, Woodstock, Simcoe, London, Grand Bend, and Sarnia. Also included is a coloured drawing of a bridge that is crossing a small creek with trees and other flora surrounding it that was made for the newsletter.

Peru Program

This series consists of mostly booklets, correspondence, and two photographs related to the Associates program in Peru. Canadian Associates worked in collaboration with the Associates in Peru to live out the charism through charity work, seeking solutions to environmental, economic, political, social, and spiritual challenges. Specifically, the series includes a document called CSJ Associates in Peru – Towards a Future Together. This document provides an overview of the proposed program in Peru, including information on how the program will be implemented. The program took place in two areas in Peru, called Zana and Chincha Alta. The Sisters from London were assigned to Zana, while Sisters from Pembroke were assigned to Chincha Alta. There is also correspondence between Sr. Janet Zadorsky and Sr. Doreen Kraemer with regards to the expenses Associated with the meeting between Chincha Alta and Zana Associates. The series also includes crafts, program booklets including prayers, and other letters. Finally, the series includes a manual and statutes from 2009.
