Camping was under the supervision of the Mission of Canada Camping Committee ca. 1972 and then the Camping Subcommittee of the Christian Development Committee. The Camping Committee hired a Coordinating Director for Camping in the 1970s to communicate directly with camps within the boundaries of Toronto Conference, to organize staff training events, and to report to Conference and to Committee on camping ministry. By 1996, this work became part of the Conference Minister for Christian Development with Youth and Young Adults, Camping and Children portfolio. In 2001, the position became Conference Minister for Christian Formation and Congregational Development, Camping.
