"Boys' Business: A Boy's Adventures with Birds and Beasts"

Item is an edition of "Boys' Business: A Boy's Adventures with Birds and Beasts," 2015. The original manuscript was written by Charles Haultain and his mother, c1910. It was discovered, and published, by his daughter, Barbara in 2015. The book contains the musings of a young boy while hunting, fishing, and enjoying the life of a young naturalist in the area surround Port Hope, and Hope Township. It also includes sketches and watercolours created by Charles Haultain.

Haultain Family Correspondence

Series consists of two (2) items of correspondence created by the Haultain family. It includes: (1) Letter to Mrs. Haultain from a Trinity College School student, c. 1914; (2) Notes from Mr. Haultain, a relief work convenor during World War I, c. 1921.

Haultain Family Papers

File consists of various Haultain family papers including: "Excerpts concerning Hugh Heaton from the Memoirs of Robin Haultain;" "The Haultain Family Tree" c. 1931; miscellaneous newspaper clippings.

Haultain Military Clippings and Brochures

Series consists of newspapers and brochurs noting military concerns. It includes: (1) Port Hope Evening Guide, 4 Dec 1914 (Letter from Robin Haultain, England); (2) Brochure "Information for Wives of Soldiers Coming from Overseas," c. 1915; (3) Brochure "Canadian Legion Pilgrimage to Vimy Ridge for the Unveiling of the Canadian National War Memorial," 26 Jul 1936.

Josephine Stuart-Grant Diary

File consists of the diary of Josephine Caroline Stuart (later Grant), 1891-1898. The diary entries begin on 1 Jan 1891 and end on 8 Aug 1898 (not inclusive). The diary itself is inscribed as follows "Josie C. Stuart "Ballintruan" Port Hope, Ontario Canada New Year's Day 1891-" and includes entries describing daily events. It also includes notes and contact information at the back of the book.

Stuart and Grant Family Obituaries

Series consists of obituaries and other clippings of the Gladman - Stuart - Stuart family, 1887-1907. It includes: Obituary for Mrs. John Grant, mother of Albert Grant, 1887; Marriage announcement of Josie Stuart and Albert Grant, 1896; Death notice of Margaret Gladman Stuart, wife of Charles Stuart, 1901; Obituary for Charles Stuart, 1907; and real estate advertisement for Ballintruan. No date.

Stuart-Grant Family Correspondence

File consists of correspondence written between members of the Stuart-Grant family of Ballintruan, c1894-1901. It includes personal messages from Albert and Josephine Grant (nee Stuart) and her parents, Charles and Margaret Stuart (nee Gladman). The letters document the travels of Albert and Josephine to Italy, France, England, Scotland, Germany and New York; and updates on their children from Charles and Margaret at Ballintruan in Port Hope. It also includes correspondence on letter head from the residence of Kaiser Wilhelm II, Balmoral Castle, Hearth & Home Magazine, Eden-Palace Hotel (France), Hotel Angst (Italy), Stuart Family (Ballintruan), Murray Hill Hotel (New York), Hotel Continental (France), Hotel Bella Vista (Italy), Hotel de France et Pension Anglaise (Italy), Palace Hotel (Scotland), Hotel Victoria (London); as well as, a Christmas card "Woodlands and Pastures Bare," "The Complexion: It's Care." by Mrs. Pomeroy (addressed to Mrs. Stuart Grant), Telegram and information booklet for Saloon Passengers per Dominion Line Royal Mail S.S. "Vancouver," 1897 (Josephine Stuart-Grant and Victoria were on board), and several other birthday and holiday cards.

Stuart-Grant Family Royal Ephemera

File consists of Royal Family ephemera collected and addressed to the Stuart-Grant family of Ballintruan, Port Hope, 1882-1953. It includes: Royal Family stationary (i.e. envelopes and letterhead); programme from the funeral of Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, 1914; invitation to attend the wedding of H.R.H. Prince Leopold Duke of Albany with H.S.H. Princess Helen Frederica Augusta of Waldeck and Pyrmont, 1882; invitation to a ball in honour of the marriage of H.R.H. Princess Beatrice and H.S.H. Prince Henry Maurice of Battenburg, 1885; three (3) invitations to visit with Lady Strathcona, 1898-1900; programme from attendance at "Balmoral Castle Concert by the Glasgow Select Choir, 1897; invitation and programme book (hard-bound) from the marriage of H.R.H. Princess Louise of Wales and the Earl of Fife, 1889; souvenir programme from The Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 1953; and a collection of postcards documenting royal events and Balmoral Castle.

Victoria Grant Scrapbook

File consists of a scrapbook consisting of poems, songs, newspaper clippings, magazine articles, event programs, published wills / probates, and published photographs, c1877-1932. It includes mention of the following Port Hope names: Henderson, Williams, Corbett, Helm, Adams, Gordon, Lawson, Cumberland, Benson, and Ward.
