          Item is a gold-plated tie clip featuring the emblem of General Foods (Kraft) and three small rubies. It was given to John Austin to commemorate 25 years of service working at the Kraft plant in Port Hope, and later, Cobourg.

          Whiskey Ledger belonging to Nathaniel Haskill who owned property and lived at Lot 16, Broken Front and Lot 165, Concession 1, Hope Township (now the Municipality of Port Hope). The earliest date of entry is 1801 with most dates primarily from 1807- 1813. - the inside pages are hand written with the purchaser's name, a description and amount of whiskey purchased and the means of payment. Often based on a barter system with payment made in the form of bushels of wheat, cows, barrels of flour etc. Some customers paid in cash. - comprised of 145 pages which are written upon with the remaining pages blank. The first 33 pages include more than one customer, where later pages, 34 - 145 are devoted to a single customer. Each customer has two pages together, side by side. In handwriting at the top is the name of the customer. First name on the left page and surname on the right side page. Left page also lists the date, amount of whiskey obtained and the cost in pounds and shillings. The left page indicates the means of payment.

          The fonds reflects Lehmann’s research on Canadian railway development and its sources of locomotives. He conducted research on companies that built locomotives in Halifax, Saint John, Montreal, Toronto, and Hamilton, but there is also an entire series of research files on the succession of companies in Kingston, including particularly the Canadian Locomotive Company.           The fonds consists of records that reflect the different roles that Janet played throughout her life as well as the various activities and functions she performed throughout the community.           The majority of the records are textual (i.e. minutes, reports, correspondence, published material, newspapers, etc.) although there is also a sizable photograph collection as well as some maps and plans and even artwork.           The collection consists of engineering drawings, photographic material, company records, employee records, product catalogues, company research, and other material relating to Waterous equipment, plant operations, and the employees of the Waterous Engine Works Co. 1874-1926, Waterous Ltd. 1926-1953 and Koehring-Waterous Ltd. 1953-1992. Textual records consist of corporate history, directors and shareholder’s minutes, order books, insurance appraisals, letters patents, deeds and mortgages, financial ledgers, stocks and bond issues, and brochures. There is also research by Roy Belshaw and his related correspondence. The engineering plans consist of 1773 drawings 1894-1931, mostly 1908-1931. Graphic material consists of 402 glass plate negatives, 171 negatives, 384 photographic prints, 1880-1960.

          A mix of catalogues showcasing locks and associated building hardware for all the companies involved, but focusing on Corbin. Box of files includes inter company correspondence, newspaper clippings, log books, photographs and shares. A number of other books include a job book for cylinder keys, manufacturing order books and department specific log books. Two awards are also included, 1 for the efforts of a flood control team in 1981 and 1 safety award received in 1960. The fonds also includes a plastic Corbin sign and a key made at the plant.

          Peter S. Schmalz fonds

          This fonds reflects Dr. Peter S. Schmalz’s career as an educator, researcher and author from the late 1960s to early 2000s. He used these resources in the creation of a Master's Thesis, a Doctoral Thesis, numerous learned articles, several books, and reports for the Ministry of Natural Resources, First Nations communities, the provincial government and federal government. The focus of his research and writing concerned First Nations as well as Town of Walkerton history.

          This fonds includes over 700 published books (not including duplicates) which reflect Dr. Schmalz's primary interest in aboriginal contact with Europeans.

          The fonds also consists of documents related to the history of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territory (Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation) which reflect the communications and relationship between the First Nations and the Imperial and Canadian governments. These documents consist of photocopied records, many of which were copied from microfilm held by the National Archives of Canada, including material from NAC's reference number RG 10 (parts of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development fonds). Records also include microform, brochures, audiotapes and videotapes, newspapers and clippings, magazines and research cards.

          Material in the fonds also reflects the history and experience of First Nations across North America.

          The material further reflects Dr. Schmalz’s leadership in education, particularly as it relates to both the education of First Nation students and the education of others about the history of First Nations. Records relate to a co-operative education project, field archaeology and native studies summer course, as well as curriculum created by Peter Schmalz and other education resources.

          Dr. Schmalz’s work, activities and interests are also reflected through his correspondence, publications, theses, and essays.

          Finally, the fonds consists of articles, maps and original records reflecting Dr. Schmalz’s interest and research concerning the history of the Town of Walkerton and other regional history resources.

          Fonds consists of material relating to J. Cooke Concrete and to William Jacob Cooke, and includes deeds and other legal documents relating to lands; correspondence; ephemera; news clippings; maps and plans; notes on biographical and administrative history; photographs; and artifacts.

          The photographs are arranged by subject matter and cover activities in and around the town of Deseronto, Ontario. The majority date from the late nineteenth century and many depict the lumber-related industries of the Rathbun Company in Deseronto. There are also photographs of school groups, churches, railways, First World War airfields and portraits of Deseronto citizens.

          The Marsh Store was a community hub for Coldstream and Lobo Township. There are eight series. These include store records, sawmill and gristmill records, and woollen mill records. Other businesses that operated out of there were: the Coldstream Telephone Company ; Lobo Mutual Fire Insurance; and the Great Western Railway and Telegraph Company. Of special interest are the magazines and books located in the Public Library collection which also operated out of the Marsh Store. Jacob Marsh was also involved with the local council which also operated from his store.

          Richards Family Fonds

          Fonds consists of records relating to the general store and sawmill owned by the Richards family at Balaclava Ontario 1896-1947. The general store records include: detailed supplier invoices 1896-1910, 1914-1933; incoming and outgoing correspondence 1897-1942 and orders and order receipts 1899-1928; general ledgers and day books 1868-1896; profit and loss accounts 1901-1905; store inventories 1903-1904, 1911 and cash books 1901-1911, 1937-1938. There are also general lumber orders 1931-1946 in box 12.

          For the sawmill there are time books 1905-1926; log books of logs cut for the sawmill 1895-1927; log book accounts 1908-1910, 1934-1939; lumber and timber contracts 1898-1910; and railway tie contracts 1914-1927.

          There are also miscellaneous files relating to the Richards family including insurance certificates 1899-1913; Harry Richards’ income taxes 1916-1923 and 1933-1940; and William Richards’ notebooks for money owed 1892-1898 as well as his estate accounts 1908-1912. There are also records relating to the public school board of Grattan and Brougham Townships 1891-1931 and the Brougham and Grattan Telephone Co. 1907-1921.

          The documents are arranged into three series: 1) General Store Records and Orders; 2) Financial Records; and, 3) Subject Files.

          Sir Hugh Allan, Sir John A Macdonald, Alexander Galt, and WP Howland as well as other prominent Canadians are all depicted on the left while a group of young men is depicted on the right. In the centre is Miss Canada who declares “"I am quite ready to hear your pretensions, young people. You say you object to Imperial distinctions being bestowed on Canadians, yet these are my great men. Can you replace them?".

          Silver Islet Collection
          Collection · 1870 - 1910

          Photographs and documents from the Silver Islet Mine and Silver Islet Store, including ledgers and a chart.

          A rich deposit of silver was discovered on Silver Islet in 1868. A small island at the tip of the Sibley Peninsula, the mine was built deep below the waterline, and relied on breakwaters and pumps. Silver Islet was mined until 1884, when pumps failed, and the mine was flooded. The small community built on shore to support the mine is still inhabited.

          Photographs and documents, generally collected because they would be of interest regarding the history of Port Arthur and Fort William. Includes rail and CPR, ships, fishing, and social and sporting groups.
