Biographical history

Henry Borden was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on September 25th, 1901. Borden was educated at McGill University (1921), Dalhousie University (1924), and was a Rhodes Scholar at Exeter College, Oxford, England (1924-1927). Borden was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in May 1927, and was called to the bar in Nova Scotia in August 1927. He then transferred to Ontario, where he was called to the bar on November 24th, 1927. Borden practiced law in Toronto, becoming a founding partner of the Borden & Elliot firm. Borden was appointed a King's Counsel in 1938. During the Second World War, Borden became General Counsel to the Department of Munitions, and in 1942 was appointed Chairman of the Wartime Industries Control Board. Borden died on May 5th, 1989.
