Custodial history
Precise custodial information for most items in this collection is unknown. In June 2008, the archivist of the Guelph Public Library began assembling the land deeds and mortgages found throughout the archives. These formed the basis of this collection. Newer donations of individual deeds and mortgages received by the archives are accessioned into this collection.
Scope and content
Collection consists primarily of deeds and mortgages pertaining to land and administrative transactions in the Guelph area. Many of the records in this collection deal with the properties located on lot 13 Albert Street of the Thompson Survey or with properties on lots 48 and 49 on the north side of Quebec Street.
This collection also contains records related to the property at 72 Macdonell Street consisting of mortgage papers, deeds and a floor plan. Also included are deeds issued by the Canada Company. Other records include marriage licenses and certificates, an adoption agreement, a bankruptcy notice, and wills.
There is no further arrangement to these records.
