Biographical history
Thomas Goheen Sr. (1753-1838) was born in Buck's County, Pennsylvania and was the first of the Goheen family to move to Canada. On 3 Mar 1780 Thomas married Rebecca Clark. The couple had five children: Thomas Jr. (1781-1860), Charles (1783-?), Elizabeth (1788-?), Samuel (1792-1877), and Jesse (1800-1886). In 1808 Thomas Sr. was granted land in the District of Newcastle on Lot 35 Concession 2. At least three of the Goheen children moved to the Hamilton / Hope Township area with their parents, all buried in Port Hope. Thomas Goheen Sr. died in 1838 and was buried in Port Hope.

It includes: Petition for the freedom of Authur Prentice, 10 Sep 1896 (mentions Henry Goheen); Indenture of Bargain and Sale from Charles Goheen to Daniel Bullock, 24 Nov 1853; Discharge of Mortgage from Charles Goheen to George Stephens, 1 Apr 1850; Deed of Land for Lot 3 Concession 5 between Luke Bedford, Zilpah Tennison Goheen and Israel Goheen, 1843 (framed); Crown Land Grant for Lot 35 Concession 2, Township of Hamilton, District of Newcastle to Thomas Goheen, 20 Apr 1808 (framed).
